Hello all,
I see threads pop up to ask about the best PQ based on various criteria, but I am more curious about seeing exactly what my panel is giving me. If you are unaware, I have a TCL 49S405 tv. It is a 2017 model, so I got it for a great deal when I picked it up earlier this year. It was reviewed on RTings, and I plugged in their numbers for my calibration settings. Here is a link to their review, if you're interested. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tc...s-4k-2017-s405 For my player, I have an LG UP875. Those familiar with it will know it as a rebranded LG UP870. This player was reviewed by CNet. Here is a link, if you're interested: https://www.cnet.com/reviews/lg-up870-review/ With that out of the way, lets get down to business. This setup is a budget setup through and through, that I am aware of, and I have no problem with. However, after looking at some higher end sets at a Best Buy last week, I realized there is a larger performance gap than I initially realized. All of this has led me to begin questioning/wondering what I may (or may not be) missing out on, due to limitations of my panel, or because I simply copied RTings settings straight off their website. So, now I have decided to ask all of you for some good scenes to look at for checking to see if my blacks are being crushed or my highlights are being blown out. I don't have a big UHD library, so if you could pick scenes within ones I own, that would be the most helpful. Please let me know what scene (or time code) to look at, and exactly what I should/shouldn't be seeing, if my display is mapping things properly. I will do all of these viewing tests at night, so there will be zero light, other than the tv. I'm sure I'm probably not the only one curious about their displays. Hopefully we can get some good recommendations that will be useful to a bunch of people, as none of these will be tv/player dependant. I think things like this will help us fine tune our displays and help to eliminate some differences we're seeing, due to improper calibration. Last edited by 4kUltraBD; 08-06-2018 at 11:09 PM. |
