Box-Office Showdown (6/3-6/5) Top Gun 2's 2nd weekend - soar or crash?

So, with a 3-day opening of $126.7 million, Top Gun Maverick got off to a flyin' start! How much will the movie drop on its 2nd weekend?



It will have the first weekend of June almost entirely to itself, aside from Watcher, there aren't any major movies opening that weekend.

(Sticking with 3-day opening figures for this one to make comparisons with 2nd weekend a little easier, since it will be a non-holiday weekend)

I don’t think it’ll have as big of a drop as the massive one that Doctor Strange had. Word of mouth is very strong.

I'm personally hoping it doesn't drop very much at all, maybe 20% at the most. This is a film that wasn't afraid to look back at its source material, and take the next rational step in spite of our nation's current political climate. Its a very patriotic movie, and I'm glad that neither Joseph Kosinski nor Tom Cruise shied away from that.

I’m going with 80 million for week 2. Word of mouth is great, A+ Cinemascore, and no competition. Drop should be smaller than average.

It'll at least equal what Strange did in its 2nd weekend, probably will make more with better reviews/WOM.

There's also Crimes of the Future. But neither will have any impact on Top Gun. I'm thinking anywhere from a 46% drop to a 52% drop.

Of those two, only Watcher is supposed to be a wide release

Crimes will probably be in 300-500 theaters. Won't be quite as wide as Watcher but still "nationwide." It will also open to more than Watcher.

Crimes isn't even in the release schedule. Also, I'm not the one deciding whether the industry considers something a "wide" release or not.

Weird. The Regals in my area aren't showing Watcher but will have Crimes of the Future.
