Default Alternative Cut of Films in extras

Hi,

Is there a thread listing iTunes copies of movies that contain alternate cuts of films in their respective extras? I've been wondering if there are hidden versions of films in titles I own. For example in:

Superman The Movie (Theatrical) - The Extended Cut is in the extras

Alien / Aliens / Alien 3 / Alien Resurrection - Directors or Alt cuts in their respective film's extras.

Spider-Man 2 - Has 2.1 in extras

etc.

Thanks

Hmm, colour me disappointed that alternate cuts in iTunes extras are still only 1080p SDR.

I guess this means Deadpool 2: the Super Duper $@%!#& Cut will be 1080p SDR too, unlike the disc! Shame...

They might give separate versions like Batman vs Superman.

Well on the plus side, I found over 25 additional versions of movies I didn't know I had from that list. Like an extended cut of "Big", I didn't know that existed.

I just realised that I haven't yet watched any of the alternate/extended cuts on any my iTunes movies.

I would imagine the video quality on a big TV is disappointing. Is it better to watch them on an iPad or laptop?

Also, why are the alternate versions not in HD? Is it an Apple decision or did one distributor star the trend?

They ARE in HD, I think you may be confused with SDR, which has to do with the Dynamic Range. So instead of a 4K HDR (DV or HDR10) you get a 1080p SDR (which means HD but standard Dynamic Range (like a regular 1080p blu-ray).

Yeah, while I know there is such a thing as '1080p HDR' adding in the SDR part can confuse people.
For _most_ of the iTunes with alternate cuts, the alternate cut is the same quality as the feature (as a lot of the features are still just 1080p, except for new releases).

4K extras can be delivered to Apple, so I'm assuming it is something that will be fixed relatively soon... Apple loves having good Extras on their movies, encourages sales, so they know this is an issue on alternate movie cuts... It'll get fixed eventually.

And, for what it's worth, the quality of any of the Extras is strictly controlled by the studios. Apple's stance is always 'The best possible quality you have'. But if all the studio has is an old VHS tape, then that's what you get... Or if the studio doesn't want to bother to pull their HD master out of a salt mine in Kansas, but has an SD master handy, then you get SD quality... Apple can ask/request, but the studio controls...

Okay, that is good to know.

Far too many technical terms.

I've seen a bit of the "making of" for Alien and it does of my old VHS recordings of stuff from the TV.

Is that the same video quality as the documentary on the blu-ray?
