Default Blade Runner (1997 point-and-click adventure being restored for PS4)

Quote:
Nightdive Studios, known for restoring classic video games such as System Shock and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, has partnered with production company Alcon Entertainment to restore the 1997 point-and-click adventure title Blade Runner for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, as well as a PC version through online storefront Steam.

Based on Ridley Scott's 1982 cyberpunk noir — but not a direct adaptation of the film — Blade Runner follows detective Ray McCoy as he hunts down renegade replicants, or androids that look remarkably human, in a futuristic version of 2019 Los Angeles. The game's narrative runs tangentially with the events of the film.

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition will feature a "polished and premium restoration" from Nightdive Studios via the company's proprietary KEX game engine, which it has used to restore Turok and System Shock for contemporary platforms, among other titles. The game will feature updated character models, animations and cutscenes, as well as widescreen resolution support, keyboard and controller customization and more. The original foreign language translations (which include German, French, Italian and Chinese) of the original game have also been sourced for the Enhanced Edition. (Source)

I'll be getting this. I've still got the original from '97.

Why not bring it out for the PS5?
I'm getting a PS5 so as long as the PS5 is backward compatible I will get this game for sure.

Bought this outstanding game on PC back in '97, bought it again when it hit Gog.com for modern PC's , so the news of this is fantastic. The game really is first class.

No part of the game-play requires the advanced hardware features present in the PS3, PS4, or PS5, because it is a 2D point-and-click game. It is a PS1-type title and because the PS5 is backwards compatible with the PS4, there's no reason to "make it for the PS5". All it needs is a game asset upgrade and rebuild, which is exactly what it's getting. The only advanced feature found in the PS4/PS5 that it might get as an upgrade is HDR visuals to match the new game assets.

I wonder if they are doing this because of the Toonami Blade Runner Anime coming out soon. Not sure when it will come out. Probably this year or next. Though I guess it would make more sense to do it when the 2049 movie came out.

I imagine they're doing it in response to its digital release a few months ago, which presumably sold well enough to justify a remaster.

I loved this game. It perfectly captured the atmosphere of the movie and was very immersive. Hopefully that isn't lost in the translation to this remake. This will be a day one purchase for me.

The sound design in the game is first class, my understanding is that Westwood Studios had access to all assets from the film for the making of it. All i want to see is one screenshot of the remastered version to convince me it's going to be as amazing as i'm hoping for.
