Real story is several paragraphs down:

Quote:
Now, the hope is to launch a new trilogy. Boyle is attached to direct the first installment. Garland would write all three. The budget for each movie would be in the $75 million range.

Seems like a waste for Boyle and Garland to go back to this. There’s been way too many zombie movies and TV shows released in the past ten years. Wish they would just make another original project together. I’ll definitely check this out though due to their talent. Hopefully it turns out well. A little worried by them hoping this turns into a new trilogy though.

I'm cool with this. It's nice to see a reunion of Boyle and Garland. And I'm cool with a trilogy. We'll see how this can stand out from all the other zombie films/shows that have come out, with Last of Us being the newest thing that people clamor on about.

I will say that I'm in a state of shock at learning that 28 Days Later turned 20 years old last year, in which this recently announced 28 Years Later makes sense...

Gonna be an interesting one, for sure. I liked Days, and Weeks had its moments. I wonder if this one is at all inspired by the recent love for The Last of Us. Odd (but nice) that they didn't try to capitalize on the big zombie boom around the time of The Walking Dead.

Regardless, I'm curious to see how this one will look. If it'll be full dystopian post-apocalypse like TLOU, or something a bit more integrated like Walking Dead in its later seasons. There were (seemingly) a fair amount of safe zones in Weeks, but with the implications of the ending, I'm sure they could easily be overrun.

What I like about the 28 Days films is that the zombies/dead aren't your traditional slow walking dead people but completely ruthless and aggressive in killing people. It just feels like more of a threat because of how fast people need to react. This is a sequel I can fully get behind and look forward to. The first one was brutal

After COVID maybe there's something that Garland can add since 28 Days Later was more about a virus while still using the zombie tropes. I feel like with his recent two films Men and Civil War he's been building to this one. The more I think about it the more I'm interested in this. Add in that Boyle wants to return then I think this could be fantastic since he's only developed his style and technique even more since then. Also with a budget like that they can really do a lot with big set pieces and bigger actors.

Days is great, as is weeks. I bought the ltd ed OST for weeks which is fantastic, and cost me a fortune.

I haven't heard Danny Boyle's name for a while now, ever since he dropped out from doing the last James Bond film (in mysterious circumstances). Look forward to seeing him release new content.

They might as well wait six more years and really make it 28 Years later.

Part of the original's charm was its low-budget, lo-fi aesthetic. Not sure if they'll manage to bring something wild to the table with a mid-sized budget, but in Garland+Boyle I trust and we're in dire need of a decent contagion movie.

I know I’m in the minority…but i love 28 Weeks Later; maybe even more than “Days.”

I compare them like this:

28 Days Later - ALIEN
Great horror film, great atmosphere and slightly disturbing

28 Weeks Later - ALIENS
More of an action/horror film. Lots of tension, but will get the adrenaline going.

Weeks is such a brutal film. I really hope those first two movies get 4K releases eventually.
