Default Blue Underground Django, the best version?

What is better, Blue Underground Django or Argent films version? With the way the Blu-ray.com reviews read, Argent have done further work with the transfer but it comes with a lower score, and a final "avoid" but how can that be when the review of the quality of the picture for Blue Underground's release is so loving and comes "strongly recommended" and they have apparently done less work with it?

Also, while we're here, I see it's region locked so that sucks, are there any mods I can do to my PS3 or will I have to fork out for a region free player?

Different reviewers and different equipment. The problematic noise might not be that noticable depending on the size of the screen. Which, in my opinion, is why blu-ray.com needs to list the review equipment to put it in context. It boggles my mind this site still doesn't do this.

You can compare for yourself between the Blue Underground and Argent here:

There's some contrast and colour differences as well.

The current HD transfer for Django is just compromised in and of itself. It has an unusual kind of artifact that, if I'm not mistaken, has to do with the equipment used to scan the film in HD. When they say the Argent has more work done, it means that the Blue Underground was released pretty much unaltered from the scan. Underneath the unique noise created by the scan equipment, detail and color and everything seem great, and many reviewers mistook the weird sheen over the image for grain or just ignored it when the disc was new. After that, I believe it was spotted on other BU Dario Argento titles and identified as a flaw. I imagine if Django's disc were re-reviewed today, the ratings would be lower. Argent tried to mitigate that look with noise reduction, but that's not a proper fix, and so the combination of the increased awareness of what's wrong with Django's HD master, plus the noise reduction, got it a MUCH lower score.

I remember I spent months watching the Argent thread with anticipation hoping someone would confirm they had rescanned it. Was all ready to import. Instead, I went back to BU's DVD. I would not buy either version, but that's up to you.

The BU disc is just plagued with scanner noise, real annoying. I actually had to rip the disc and compress the file(decreasing the resolution) to reduce the noise just to make it watchable. I'm sure as the other poster mentioned depending on the set of equipment it might render the noise a tad different but Django just needs a new scan. The BU disc does have great detail and colors under the nose however but the UK disc is washed of detail and color. Rough situation all around.

Doesn't sound promising, but thought I'd check in here to see if there's any "deal" with all the new deluxe DE releases of Django. Not optimistic, but waiting for confirmation whether this is still the same crappy transfer. Surprised they would rerelease such a transfer with such fanfare.

Seeing this thread and looking at the film's release year, I wonder; you think BU will put out a 50th anniversary edition with a new transfer next year?

There's a UK version that apparently has inferior PQ. The PQ on the BU release isn't great, but is the best version currently out there.

I find it hard to believe any other release in the whole wide world isn'nt being better than these after all this time and a remade film and alot of sequels on BD..Hmm dissapointing if the original one hasn't got any more appreciation than it deserves.

I just threw this in again today. The disc says 1.0 audio and when I display the info from my player it says 1.0, but the sound is coming out my left and rights. I know my set-up is correct. Is there an issue here?
