Disney and Fox keep on making the insane decision to put DTS-MA 7.1 on Blu-rays where the movie theatrically had Dolby Atmos! Please tell Disney and Fox you want Dolby Atmos or DTSX on Blu-ray's of movie that featured Dolby Atmos soundtracks.

Even if Disney were to charge consumers $3+ more per Blu-ray title for DTS X and Dolby Atmos, most audiophiles will pay for the feature.

For consumers that have not upgraded their A/V receiver and speakers yet, those consumers should still want this, since once they upgrade within 3-5 years they will have a big selection of existing Blu-rays to listen to that contains object based surround sound.

Every movie that contains a DTS X or Dolby Atmos soundtrack in the commercial movie theater should also be released on Blu-ray the same way. That would be ideal for consumers.

Since DTS doesn't charge to use their format, they're most likely waiting for price reasons. Fine with me, UHD is going to cost too much anyway.

I keep hearing from people on forums that it costs studios more licensing fees to use lossless audio codecs like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master audio versus PCM.

If there is no price difference between DTS-HD Master audio and DTS X, then maybe no price increase is needed for movies that are already encoded with DTS X. Now if it’sa home video documentary then it costs more since an audio engineer needs to spend more time getting the object based surround sound mix just right.

I'm not happy with the few UHD's that Disney Home Video has released where they have compressed the dynamic range of the Atmos track on the disc editions - what's up with that ??

I purchase movies even more frequently than I have in years, because I know sales are dipping for physical media. I would like to contribute to its lifespan.

However, Disney has been making poor audio conversions the last couple years, and Atmos is the least of its issues.
I have decided to NOT purchase Disney movies until they sort this crap out. Sadly, there are not ENOUGH people who are willing to do this. I get that it's great to own your movie and stuff, but man... COCO, and THOR: RAGNAROK is where I've drawn the line. No more.
I agree that Atmos should be included if it was released in theater that way. But then again, Disney already charges high prices for an inferior product that is inherently flawed, leaving an unsatisfactory audio presentation in ANY lossless format.
I'd take a good 7.1 audio mix over a quiet, compressed LFE-free Atmos presentation any day.

Trust me, I've emailed Sony about their lack of Atmos on standard Blu-ray (for a while now, and it seems they are "considering" it), and also emailed Disney about it as well. As for FOX? Well, we'll see.

I've emailed both Sony and Fox now, who said they are "looking into it". I've also emailed Disney, but have yet to have a response regarding this specifically.

Bravo... completely agree. Underwhelmed with their atmos mixes on UHD discs. I think their 7.1 DTS BD tracks sound way better up-mixed with neural:X - at least in my theater
