surprise!
![]() coming in only 3 weeks! pre-order is up at SAE. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-G...Blu-ray/12449/ EDIT: apparently not an "official" TT release, but a Fox release exclusive to SAE. Last edited by Arkadin; 03-14-2012 at 10:59 PM. |

Interesting, I just got an email from Screen Archives for this and Zorba the Greek (also Apr. 3)_. Both $29.99, released directly from Fox but apparently only through Screen Archives. No mention of limited quantity. So apparently Fox is going to try to bypass Twilight Time and release directly through SA for deep catalog titles they think will have limited appeal?
EDIT: Yeah, the SA email says: "Available Exclusively" "20th century Fox Presents" Last edited by The Duke; 03-14-2012 at 10:58 PM. |

certainly seems like what they are doing.
you have to think they have talked with TT about this. I mean are they ever going to be on amazon where people will inevitably wait for a significant price reduction. I mean I get what they are doing, but it still seems odd. |

Actually, it seems like a beneficial move for Twilight Time / Screen Archives. While they could never hope to get a major 'A' level catalog title like The Grapes of Wrath from Fox for Twilight Time directly, the fact that they get an exclusive sale window at their website means people who love classic films and hear about TGoW on Blu-ray will go to their site and see the TT titles also available there. A title like TGoW will open up a broader consumer base for them, simply from the reality that there are likely far more people as potential consumers than, say, Rapture, and it also allows Fox to not have it be limited to 3000 if it sells really well.

ssjmichael--well certainly not me. I really don't think a lot of people are buying TT titles to try and flip for profit. I mean sure you might make a little money eventually, but I think most of the people buying them simply want the films on bd.
simple as that. captveg--yeah TT may pick up some sales for sure. |

The Grapes of Wrath is an 'A' list catalog title that can be offered at lower cost due to it's sales history being much more reliable. |

Exactly, I'm not going to pay that much for a movie that will be had for ~$15 down the road. I would pay It if it were like the other twilight time releases but it's not worth the extra money to have it a few months before retail chains have it..... IMO.... I'm sure plenty people would disagree though.

Yankees has a point though. Unlike TT, which has been cherry-picking Fox and SPHE vault gems of high collector appeal but marginal mainstream interest, Fox might simply be 'testing the waters' here via their own deal with SAE...just to see which ones might be worth taking wider down the road. If any of these titles sell out, they might do a retail version; if not, then they've shrewdly hedged their bets.
I think it's interesting that the first two titles in this series - Grapes and Zorba - were both from Fox' original numbered Studio Classics DVD series. They even rework the original Studio Classics artwork. So do the math...I'm sure Fox is. ![]() Last edited by ROclockCK; 03-15-2012 at 04:16 AM. |
