Default Podcast’s about movies recommendations

Getting bored with the radio on my way into work. I started to listen to podcasts and having binged 80’s All Over with Drew McWeeny and Scott Weinberg about every theatrical release in the eighties, month by month. I have also sampled Junkfood Cinema and Somebody Else’s Movie which are great as well. Any others that I’m missing?

Linoleum Knife, Who Shot You are two film podcasts I listen to. The latter is brand new and only had a few episodes so far.

Bumping this thread as I too am seeking some podcast recommendations. Here are my recommendations.

1. Classic Film Jerk - Join movie fans Michael DiGiovanni and Andrew Bloom as they set out to determine if all these so called classic films are indeed just that. My thoughts: Short and sweet movie (usually under an hour) reviews from guys who haven't seen the classics, until now. They recast with today's actors and ask "Who's not dead?" from the original cast among other topics. Very unique podcast and highly enjoyable.

2. The Cine-Files - Each week on the Cine-Files we enter the world of great film and explore its ideas, history, filmmakers and the influences it has on movies today. My thoughts: A staggering level of quality content of a wide variety of genre's and decades. Most episodes are over an hour and sometimes will spend more than one episode on a particular film.

3. Jaret Goes to the Movies! - Jaret Reddick (of the Band, Bowling for Soup) and Rich Coleman review popular movies from their past each week and hilarity ensues. My Thoughts: Now this one is different and will not be for everyone. Sometimes it takes 20-30 minutes to actually get to talking about the movie, and there is insight into the personal lives of those talking without any connection to the movie, but with most episodes being 2 hours long, this is a wonderful way to revisit some films if you just want to hear people being silly and talking about it. Profanity and sexual references do occur!

Honorable Mentions:
4. Finleys on Film
5. Into the Archives
6. Scriptnotes

This one may not be so much 'about' movies.

But i used to listen to Doug Loves Movies frequently a couple of years ago. Have not listened to it lately so I dont know if the format has changed at all.

I'd recommend:

How Did This Get Made?: They watch terrible movies and make fun of them

The Film Vault: They do a general discussion of movies they watched recently and then do a top 5 list based around a theme.

Unspooled: They discuss a different film from the AFI 100 Greatest Films list every week.

Doug Loves Movies: More of a comedy podcast than a movie podcast maybe, but they do discuss movies and play different movie themed games during the show.

There's a couple I listen to:
* The Podcast Under The Stairs (mostly horror from a dude in Scotland)

* Best Bad Movie Ever (bad movies and the people who love them)

* Radiodrome (more horror)

* They Must Be Destroyed On Sight (this one I just discovered. I havent gotten too many episodes into it, but it sounds promising)

Plus there's my venture into online broadcasting: The Video Nasty Project, where we work our way through all 72 (and then some) banned video nasties. We'll also be expanding out here soon to cover non-nasty genre films like spaghetti westerns, kung fu, 80's action and so on.

A second endorsement for Blank Check w/ Griffin & David. They go through filmographies of directors that had rousing success early in their careers and were issued a series of "blank checks" to make crazy passion projects.

They've done Cameron, Spielberg, Crowe, Bigelow, Nolan, Verhoeven and many others. Currently doing Brad Bird. And because they used to be a Star Wars podcast, they also review everyone new one of those that drops, and occasionally other one-off episodes. They're genial and funny and sometimes get on each other's nerves. They have guests on frequently and their producer, Ben (man of a thousand nicknames bestowed by Griffin at the beginning of every episode) also chimes in quite a bit. It's a really fun show. Releases every Sunday evening.

Also fully endorse:

You Must Remember This
The Canon
Unspooled
How Did This Get Made?
The Filmstruck Podcast
Junkfood Cinema

sometimes listen to:

Black Men Can't Jump In Hollywood
Binge Mode
Filmspotting
The Empire Film Podcast
The Moment with Brian Koppelman
The Director's Cut - A DGA Podcast
The Writer's Panel with Ben Blacker

For current industry centric news or analysis:

Fighting in the War Room
Little Gold Men
The Business
Playback with Kris Tapley
Whiting Wongs with Dan Harmon and Jessica Gao (this one has been especially great for confronting race and gender representation in tv and film in pretty raw and honest ways, not just "diversity or else" pandering. If you're interested in that sort of thing.)

The Blank Check guys are too negative about the film's they review. It almost ruins rewatcjes of movies because all you think about is the stuff they pointed out and made fun of.

The Empire Film podcast is a good one for going into current releases. They also do some great spoiler casts where they go into everything about a movie.

I mean, one is a professional critic and they both have discerning taste, but I'd actually say they skew pretty positive on most things. I disagree with them plenty but am still delighted and entertained by their perspectives. It's pretty infrequent that they really rip something apart, and it's usually in their one off episodes with deeply flawed stuff like Book of Henry or Jack Reacher 2.
