Default Upscaling to 1680 * 1050 resolution..

Hi everybody

I am watching Blu-Ray Discs on my computer using PowerDVD Ultra. The 22" screen resolution is 1680*1050. I know that HD is 720P (Hd Ready) and 1080P (Full HD) but i want to know if it is possible to upscale the picture to use the full resolution of my screen.

Do you think i can do it? And if i can do it, please tell me how?

Thx

1050 would not be upscaling. You would actually reduce the scale on the bluray disk.

yes you are right but i mean that when im watching a blu-ray movie my computer is displaying it in 1280 * 720 resolution. I know that i can't play the movie in full HD (1982 * 1080) resolution but it would like to know how can i do to get a better resolution than this 1280 * 720 and take benefit of my full screen resolution (1680*1050). So i mean "upscaling" the picture from the simple 1280 * 720 resolution.

I am watching Blu Ray movies with 22" LG 226 WA screen + 8800 GTX Graphic card + pwerDVD Ultra.

Thx

somebody will have to correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't believe you can do that. you're stuck with 720p, but at that size, i'm not sure you'd see the difference anyways

If the Blu-Ray disk is 1080p anything you do is down-scaling the image. So even 720p is downscaled. Depending on what software you're using you should be able to scale the image to use the full screen of your computer. For example, Quicktime will allow you to fill the screen by using either Command+F or Control+F. But you're not getting any more resolution. You're simply stretching the image to fill the screen. You'll need to read the help files for the program you're using.

EDIT: As a side note, 720p is actually HD. "HD Ready" does not imply a resolution but rather a monitors ability to display an HD image (anything 720p and over). So HD Ready can also mean a monitor capable of 1080p or higher. HD Ready generally applies to monitors (no ATSC tuner), while "Full HD" is generally a monitor with a tuner or more commonly known as a TV.

Actually yesterday i went to Fnac (french equivalent of Wall Mart) to buy the british movie "Layer Cake" in Blu Ray Disc. When i played the disc, before the movie itself, there was a Blu Ray demo video that "upscaled" to my full screen resolution and the demo was so good that i had this famous 3D effect. I simply said "wouahhhhh" but when the movie started the video came back to 1280 * 720 resolution. And i want to know why i got this full screen resolution only for the demo and not for the movie...

And each time im playing a blu movie the resolution is always set to 1280*720 and im getting these quite large black lines that make the video fill only 60% of the 16/10 screen surface.

Full HD implies full 1080p; HD Built-in applies to a monitor with a built-in digital tuner.

Hmmm.......Maybe try using K-Lite Mega codec. Look it up on google, it pretty much reads any codecs and has a lot of internal options. I am pretty sure they can read blu-ray discs codecs *AVC & VC-1, etc...* If any program will let you watch your Blu-Rays "stretched" to your resolution 1680x1050, that would be it.

*HERE* if I just start a BD on PowerDVD Ultra 7.3, the player starts at a size smaller than an Explorer window.

Yes, this thing does play BDs at 1080p, just that the player is minimized at startup.

If you start a playback and it is not full screen(any software player), try clicking(double click) the top bar of the player and the software *should* maximize to full screen - regardless of screen resolution.

Quite welcome friend!

EDIT: Sometimes even maximized the player will stay visible.
If the player's top and bottom bars do not "Auto-Hide", look for a "Full Screen" button on the player itself.
This will make the player "go away" and all you will see is the video full screen.

Exactly the picture is still 720P but it is stretched to 1050 and make the picture look worst so finally it is better to keep it to no-stretched 720P.

I agree with you!
I think it is either 720 P or 1080P. You can't really change the resolution like you do with your graphic card!
By the way Picture Quality is very good even with a 22" 1680*720 monitor...
