United Kingdom The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) (Eureka)

Eureka's announcements have unfortunately leaked onto Amazon, and while most are being kept under wraps until the official announcement in the thread, I figure many folks would be keen to know about this one:

FotP sounds like solid old-skool entertainment, I'm definitely interested.

I'm glad someone has announced it. The US is dragging it's feet with this title. If this is released first I'll definitely grab it but it's annoying that no US label has announced it.

Fantastic news. One of the last unreleased films from my top 20. Couldn't be happier.

I'm a big Robert Aldrich fan but I couldn't get into this one for some reason. I might give it another chance though.
'Sands Of The Kalahari' coincidently made in the same year 1965 is a similar film & far superior imo.

Looking forward to this. My Mum got me into it. She kept saying "Just stick with it, you'll enjoy it".

I was only a kid at the time but I ended up loving it.

Now I know of a possible reason why this film hasn't been released yet in the US: The Blu-ray.com review says the Eureka BD is from an older master, which means that the film is probably undergoing a restoration/new scan. I ordered a copy of UK release but would gladly double dip if a new edition is forthcoming. Frankly, a new scan would be the only acceptable reason why there's still no US version.

I screened it on my projection system tonight. Both picture and sound were great. The colors were excellent. The people griping about the age of the transfer haven't seen it. It's an excellent blu-ray.

Not at all necessary. The review only makes that statement as an evaluation of the source material. It does not give any indication that a new restoration project is announced or under-way.

The one who "griped" about the age of the transfer is a Blu-ray.com reviewer. I'm pretty sure they watch the discs they review.

I was just speculating on a possible reason why the film hasn't yet been released in the US. The only conclusion I could come up with is **perhaps** a new scan is being undertaken.

I'm sure Eureka's release is very nice, I wasn't suggesting otherwise. But an older master is, well, an old master is there is always room for improvement. I mean, they're doing 4K scans for films like Madman and Manos, the Hands of Fate. Surely a classic like Flight of the Phoenix merits the same treatment.

Yes, but you said the film is "probably undergoing a restoration/new scan" for a US release and, as Ravenus says, you've just made that up with no evidence or knowledge. Is it possible that it's getting a new master? Yes - but you said it's probable which is quite a different thing.
