Germany is releasing a special edition Digibook Blu-ray of this Brian De Palma sci-fi film from 2000.:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Missi...lu-ray/265600/ Just watched this movie today, after experiencing 2001: A Space Odyssey in 4k. I really like this film for being different. The score is so serene, and reminds me of home ( ![]() The French disc has lots of macroblocking, although it's watchable, but could be so much better. I hope this has a better encode. I can't wait to check it out. They should release it on June.09.2020 though, as that is the start of the movie. EDIT: This Blu-ray comes with quite a few cool special features, according to amazon.de. Audio commentary by John Knoll & Hoyt Yeatman, interviews with the cast, evolution of VFX scenes, etc.. Sound promising. I just hope the transfer is good. Who has BD by this studio and how are they? What's their track record? Who else is a fan of this film? I remember seeing this in theaters. Was in high-school back then and I already had an affinity towards sci-fi, so I was reasonably pleased with the film. Not sure how it holds up today, but I did glimpse at it on Vudu in HDX and the sandstorm scene is still jaw-dropping.
Been wanting a Blu-Ray upgrade for a while, but I held off on the French import because of forced subs (I think?). I might bite on this edition, if it can even ship to to the US. |

Should look awesome then. I live in Austria, so I could possibly buy a few and send them to the US, but let's see. |

I've always liked this film quite a bit. Far from De Palma's best, but nowhere near as bad as some claim.
Is this the first time the alternative ending will be available on dvd/blu-ray? |

Just arrived and managed to spin it for 5 mins
Starts with Studio Canal logo and doesn't look like a crisp HD transfer so presume it's the same as the French version. DTS-MA 5.1 English and German with removal German subs. The alternate ending is a let down. It's just a jokey ending thats likely been ripped from YouTube or something. Not official I don't think and its 34 seconds long. Not 11 mins Size is a G1 mediabook and is glossy Last edited by bigrob; 06-17-2020 at 01:59 PM. |

Does it suffer from severe macroblocking, especially in all the reds, like the French edition? How is the encode, transfer, etc.? Help us, Bigrob. You are our only hope. |
