There are too many "if"s and unknow factors here:
- will they really offer such speeds in 2008 or is it one of the marketing tricks to get people talking about Comcast? - even if these speeds will be indeed offered, which markets will be covered? What's the schedule for the nation-wide deployment? - What would be the price for such a connection? |

And it will be 120mb up as well. (160mb down, 120mb up). They expect to have the service to about 20% of the market by end of 2008. Expect to start seeing offerings this Spring from operators.

that kind of bandwidth would be badass. Wonder how it will be achieved?

I read somewhere that the 'flux capacitor' would finally be utilized to achieve these speeds.

While I agree that those kinds of speeds look to be insanely awesome, especially the upload but if Microsoft is betting that legions of people will get the service and then use it for downloading HD movies en masse, I think they might want to rethink things a bit. I for one will still continue to grow my BD collection and I will still burn BD media once the price of BD burners come down a bit. In my honest opinion, net speeds could get to 500mb/s within the next 10 years and I'd still would want the physical disc to transport my movies/data wherever and whenever I want. Its as simple as that.

160 mb down each for an entire neighborhood on the old and worn out Coaxial cables?
Somehow I doubt it will happen anytime soon and even then in extremely select markets. |

i totally agree, but i live in a kinda ruralish area (only 4k peeps in my town), but the county population is crazy. comcast is all i can get. no dsl, no fios, nothing. i would gladly pay $30 for 3 mb, thats all i need. i hate comcast with a fiery passion that would rival the sun!

and it took 3 tech visits and THEN a visit from a supervisor before they realized that the coaxial cables that had been installed were unable to handle CURRENT megabit capacity and had to be replaced. Sure, they wanted to blame the modem, the computer, the router, the signal strength (You need a "BOOSTER!!!") etc. etc. and it. was. out. of. date. inferior. cables. courtesy. of. Comcast.
So if I get that for $40+ dollars a month, then the 160 mb must be an awesome deal at $400 per month! Sign me UP! |
