Signature's website says there'll be a digital version available though, so if you don't get a BD you should be able to buy it off iTunes UK or something... (Edit: It's already on VOD in the US, DVD release (possibly blu-ray as well) expected in September.) |

I'm wondering if it's contractually limited, because the UK is getting it on home media first, and it being released simultaneously with VOD, only a few days after the film's theatrical tour.
Or if Signature decided to do a blu-ray release then changed their minds? 500 seems like a weirdly low number, given the high production costs involved, and they aren't selling it that expensively... Also, Signature have promoted the DVD release on Facebook, but not the blu-ray, hmm... ![]() Anyway, I started a Kevin Smith collection earlier in the year, got a little sidetracked, but the completest in me made me order just in case it didn't get another blu-ray release. I was a huge View Askew fan back in the day and was an active part of the fandom from the early days of the View Askew Messageboard. I regularly travelled from the UK for various events (Kevin himself once told me that it wasn't a Vulgarthon if I wasn't there) and I even appeared briefly in Zack & Miri... but the whole Smodcast career path did little for me, and the messageboard was eventually shut down (rightfully so, given how the place degenerated once Kevin left for the green green grass of Twitter)... and whilst I still love those films I'm now torn as I'd no longer say I was a fan of who Kevin is now (Stoner Kevin).
The trailer for the Super Groovy Cartoon Movie looked awful and I no longer had any desire to go to events like Q&As/Screenings (so even when this hit the UK I skipped it) - it looks like a abysmally animated adaptation of the J&SBSB tie-in comic that Kevin did for Image Comics back in the day... and I didn't like that much either (it definitely paled in comparison to the Jim Mahfood Clerks comics or the Duncan Fegredo Jay & Silent Bob series). Yet I still found myself ordering this... fool and his money and all that! I guess the completist in me wanted it even if I only end up watching it once. Maybe somewhere in alternate universe Kevin re-teamed with Oscar-nominated Chris Bailey (who did the excellent Clerks animated show) to do the animated movie about Randal making a film at the Quick Stop which we were promised way back when. |
