Default PAL DVD Anime Exclusives

School me on anime that is available on DVD in Europe/UK/Australia but NOT in Japan or North America. Please don't include anime that have an NTSC HD release but no NTSC DVD. This list is for SD DVDs not Blu-rays.

I'll keep this post updated if this gets any traction.

Starting it off with the only 2 currently on my radar...

***The years listed are the original release years, not necessarily the PAL DVD release years.

Australia:

France:

- Grey: Digital Target ("Grey: Cible Digitale") [1986] ***Missing post end credit epilogue found in some other analog releases
- Junk Boy [1987]
- Shoujo Tsubaki ("Midori") [1992]

Germany:

- Fushigi No Kuni No Arisu ("Alice im Wunderland") [1983-1984]
- Future War 198X [1982] ***Possibly unlicensed release
- Heei! Bunbuu ("Bumpety Boo") [1985-1986]
- Kite [1998] ***this German release is apparently the most uncensored even when compared to the original Japanese release)

Italy:

- Kaze To Ki No Uta ("Il Poema Del Vento El Degli Alberi") [1987]

Spain:

United Kingdom:

Are you looking for Australian releases as well, or just Europe? And since you mentioned releases from Italy and Germany, I'm guessing English support isn't necessary? Anyway, here's what I know of off the top of my head; I'll add more if I think of any.

UK:

Sol Bianca OVAs (NOT the Legacy OVAs, the older ones)

Digital Devil OVA (the first OVA, not the one Manga released here) and The Cockpit OVA, released as a double feature

France:

Junk Boy OVAs

Mermaid's Scar OVA

Australia:

Mekakucity Actors TV

Nanana's Buried Treasure TV

Classroom Crisis TV

Monster TV

Nodame Cantablie TV (Just season 1, I believe)

Australian releases welcome too!

Being English friendly is not strictly necessary, but I’ll definitely note any releases without Japanese audio.

EDIT: BTW, it seems like most of those you listed have Japanese DVDs. It’s definitely good to mention those, but I’ll probably only keep track of the true exclusives in the OP.

Sorry, missed the 'not in Japan' part; I've looked for European releases that aren't available in North America, but I've never really checked to see what Japanese DVD releases there might be for them.

It’s all good—completely understand.

Everyone can mention PAL exclusives in this thread, and I’ll just check on Japanese DVDs before updating the list in the first post.

There was an official R3 release of Nodame Cantabile Season 1 from Intercontinental Video in HK quite some time before the Australian release (with the same Animax dub and English subtitles), for what it's worth. My copies are kinda buried away but looking at some old listings for it they are NTSC. Wouldn't be easy to find nowadays so probably still worth including the PAL release on this list. Just thought I'd mention it.

There are Japanese DVDs but France is the only one to release DT Eightron in the west.

There is no confirmation, that this release is legit. It doesn't credit the original producers or copyrights.
Same goes for the "Remi" (Movie) Release from Germany, that seems to be published by a company that closed down before DVDs were even invented.

Germany:
Kite - original but uncensored cut (the Kitty Media version has few seconds of alternative materials)
Bumpety Boo (incomplete, assumingly based on the Saban Version)
Alice in Wonderland

France
- Midori / Shojo Tsubaki (multi-lingual dvd)

Added a few of these. It was somewhat difficult to look up some, especially Alice and Wonderland since it's got the same name as a major Disney film (but couldnt find any Japanese DVD release).

Added a note about Future War 198X.

Kite seems to have a full Japanese release, Shoujo Tsubaki looks like VHS only in Japan, but there could be a rare DVD maybe.

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00UPJYZQG
(Note: stacked discs)
Only 24 episodes aired in Japan, with another 2 VHS-exclusive. The last 26 episodes never got a Japanese dub so they were never released there...

The Japanese release of Kite features visual censorship (mosaics).

The US "Director’s Cut" DVD of Kite however is slightly cut and had some explict scenes replaced - approx 10 seconds in total or so (other differences only affected credits). The German OVA 18 release is the only original & uncensored release - and it's very, very hard to find. (The German Animaze-Release is easier to find, but zoomed in to 16:9 ratio)

UK / Spain:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0007Y2AHU (EN dub)
https://www.amazon.es/dp/B00DE8DLPG (EN+FR+ES+DE dub)
Assumingly VHS-only in Japan. It appears that there might be a US-DVD - can't verify it - however it was listed with a runtime of only 60 minute, so assumingly a single disc "best of" release.

Others:
I'd suggest checking the 80s and 90s series that involved Mondo TV or BRB
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondo_TV#TV_series
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRB_In...ision_programs
As these were co-produced by PAL companies and were never that popular in Japan or the US, I assume that some of them are PAL-DVD only

Indeed, but long out of print.

Didn't know that. Any idea if the JP LD has the after end epilogue. I might have to track that down, if it does.

I really don’t know, but I would absolutely assume that it does as what I read alluded to the fact that it was a mistake of some sort on the French DVD rather than some sort of extra on the original releases.

I’ve personally never seen this OVA in any form, but I’d like to!
