Default Why are DVDs sometimes more expensive than Blu Rays?

Was at Best Buy and noticed Maze Runner 2's DVD was 14.99 and the Blu Ray was 9.99. Far from the first time I have seen something like this. What is funny is a lot of people refuse to update to Blu Ray because it is "too expensive". They are being conned

Dollar stores are worse. They sell Blu-rays for less than $5, but "brand new movies" like Pixels and Goosbumps that are on DVD are sold for $19.99. I was like, GTFO!

It's even more laughable when the BD/DVD combo is cheaper than the DVD only or even the same price. It was like this with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The release week price was $19.99 for the BD/DVD/DC and the DVD only was the same price.

It comes down to two factors... what they bought the disc for originally or if they were price protected on the reduction from a higher price. Now, some DVDs were more expensive because they were special editions... sometimes with two or three discs for extra material whereas the BluRay counterpart was a more stripped down version to make it cheaper.

For every 50 DVDs that are more expensive, I'm sure it's quite easy to find 50 BDs more expensive than their DVD counterparts. Prices between the two formats fluctuate.

Blu rays might have been expensive some time back but they are pretty cheap nowadays (unless you are looking at day one releases) including the player.

Since most of the people have HDTVs it isn't as hard as 4K for instance but most of the time people are resistant to change.

Why are people complaing? If anything this is great news for BD buyers. We get the good stuff for cheap, while leaving the more expensive, mediocre stuff to the rest.

Haha this is true. I also noticed the Star Wars The Force awakens dvd was 19.99, when i was buying the blu ray. I was like who would pay that for the dvd?!? The dvd should be like 6.99.

What makes that mis-price remarkable is that it isn't being sold by some loopy 3rd-party Marketplace seller, but Amazon itself.

Then again, I've taken advantage of some equally-crazy low prices from Amazon before, once buying a JP import BD directly from Amazon.it for €11 when it normally sold for €90 there (or ¥6000 via Amazon.co.jp) so it's not all bad.
