Oh gee, I wonder where they got the cover from? That sure is some lazy cover design on the part of the Australian blu-ray cover designer. I think I should apply for that job. No skills needed.
![]() 11836Drunken_Master.jpg Is there some law somewhere that says that if you use 1 JC image once that you have to use it a thousand times? JC just can't win. |

Starting off with a borrowed cover didn't build much confidence. It seems like it could just be the prior dvd release on blu-ray instead of the Japanese box set release. But, then again, if Twilight Time, in the States is reported to be releasing both SITES and DM then maybe there is some hope that the Australian release will use the Japanese transfer.

That's disappointing. Twilight Time better not use the same ancient master.

Yep, sounds like the same damn track that's been lurking about for, what, 16 years now? Ugh... Yeah, if Twilight Time works on this, they'll most likely just slap together what Sony gives them. At least they tried with the Japanese release.

Yeah, those Japanese releases are certainly the way to go. I would still pick up the Twilight Time releases when those do arrive as I already have the Japanese box set. I would hope that Sony would supply them with the new remaster as that thing is a thing of beauty. The only thing wrong with those Japanese releases is the lack of English subs. Extras and everything else are an absolute joy. I can never stop singing the praises of those releases (the extreme editions). I doubt that I will ever see JC treated so respectably as the Japanese blu-rays have. Now that I have pretty much the ultimate version of Jackie`s films, I would be happy with a bare-bones releases with HD print and English subs with the original theatrical soundtrack. What I haven't found from Japan, I have tried to supplement from the HKL dvd releases. The extras on those releases are pretty top-notch too. I certainly praise the Japanese companies for giving a shit. Too bad that rights issues prevent English subs from being included (or whatever the issue is that stops them from including them).

Technically, the Cantonese soundtrack does have some new SFX in the parts where the Cantonese track used to be missing. Not sure what happened there. Having the original Chinese-language credits would be nice too. All that being said, the Japanese disc is still acceptable for 99.9% of the people who are out there. It looks great, it sounds great, and there are *ahem* custom discs out there with subs and the completely unaltered soundtrack (sourced from a French DVD, IIRC) for those who want them.

There are screenshots taken from the Sony Japanese blu-ray edition. Here you go: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=229887&page=3 That is a link to the thread here on this very site. Not sure what master is used for the Australian blu-ray though. I have the Japanese box set and will not upgrade until there is a release with English subs using the same master or better. |

I'm getting to the point where I think I'd almost rather just buy the Japanese release, even without English support of any kind, just because I know the movie so well (and the plot isn't that important, anyway) that I just want to appreciate it in its best visual glory, if the Japanese one is significantly better than the Australian in that regard, I know the one for me (and same goes for Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, I'd buy the two-pack!). What's this about Twilight Time? Are they really releasing it (just Drunken Master, or also Snake...?) If they do, they will definitely use the remaster, right? |

I posted the link to the screenshots of the Japanese edition in the previous post. But, just in case you missed it, here it is: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=229887&page=3 No idea what the Australian version is using. It was mentioned that it was not as good as the Japanese release. It was rumored that Twilight Time were going to release these two movies sometime this year but no word about it yet. So, maybe it was just a rumor or perhaps they will release it a later date. And, no idea what master they will use. |

Sorry for the thread bump, I was almost going to pick this up for AU$8 from Amazon AU but it sounds as lame as the original US release that I once owned on DVD paying an absurd $50 for (!!) back in the old days
I hated the in & out audio going from cantonese to english in the early scenes, really killed the vibe and at the time I didn't understand what was going on - made it seem like a bad pirated copy. Sounds like I should buy the Eureka version despite the 3x cost because I'm not 'upgrading' for the disjointed audio track |
