I'm not a total horror geek, but I do really love the older stuff. My horror watching tends to be like mid 80s and earlier. The only newish horror films I am familiar with and love are Midsommar and The VVitch.
What are some newer (say 2005-present) that are "can't miss" awesome movies that I'd be stupid not to check out? Sorry if this thread already exists. |

I like the first two Conjuring films. Insidious is pretty decent. Hereditary is really good, IMO.
Lights Out is good. Ouija: Origin of Evil was OK too. And, going back to 2001 I always felt The Others was a great movie. |

It part one was pretty good (I’ve so far not felt the need to see part 2)
And the extended version of Doctor Sleep is very good indeed. |

Bliss I was very pleasantly supprised by, trying to redo Driller Killer seems like a bit of a hiding to nothing but I think it does really manage to bring the same intensity Ferrara did just with the LA punk/goth scene.

Hereditary is also my favorite in a long time. I haven't seen the director's follow up, Midsommar yet.
The new NOPE movie might be a good horror sci fi film, from the director of Get Out, which was a good thriller/horror type film. The Wailing was actually creepy horror, but in a foreign language. A newer horror film I found on Tubi and Crackle TV. 1408 is surreal for a ghost movie from 2007. I have watched a lot of horror but it would take time to list all of the ones I feel are scary and effective since 2005. |
