Audio: English (Original Language?) DTS-HD MA 7.1, Mandarin TrueHD 7.1
Subtitles: Traditional Chinese/Simplified Chinese/English
BD: Unknown
Time: 121 mins

I am going to guess 16:9 means either 1.85:1 or 1.78:1 (meaning it is open-matted and not in OAR), but can't say that 100%.

The 16:9 denotion is from the DVD specification notation to let consumers know that its a 16:9 enhanced disc.

16:9 is a moot point with Blu-ray Discs but a lot of studios still state 16:9/16x9 on the artwork. Warner does it on their US releases, the back of Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince states: 1080p High-Definition 16x9 2.4:1.

And oddly, my copy of I'm A Cyborg...But That's OK import from Tartan UK states Anamorphic 1.77 on the back.

I've seen some of the movies that are 1.85:1 or 1.78:1 use the term 16x9 instead on JSDVD, which is why I wanted to warn it might be open-matted. JSDVD sometimes has incorrect specs or incomplete specs and it usual takes time before they get it right (if at all).

Amazon.co.uk version only has Dolby Digital for audio, but is much cheaper.

Wow, $12.50. Might need to pull the trigger and get it along with the two Death Note films.

JSDVD ships blu-ray quickly, you won't wait for more than one week
to get the blu-rays

This movie was pretty bad. The cover is misleading.
I watch a lot of asian films and I wouldn't tell anyone to buy this.

I bought the DVD a few years back and enjoyed it. Jackie Chan has stepped his game with his Chinese films.

It was very strange to see him in this type of movie, he usualy goes more for action/police story type of movies.

Originally, when the film was in development, he was a detective that was able to travel through time. It was called Titanium Rain.

That seem to be more in the way a Jackie Chan movie would work

I got my Blu-ray from Amazon.uk. Very good PQ (can't comment much on the audio)

It's a very different type of movie of Jackie, not as much humour in it. Not bad at all, good action scene and the little Korean actress is so cute

I obtained the Cine Asia DVD (rented years ago but didn't finish), and there's a few issues with it:
  • English subtitles appear for English dialogue (there should have been a separate SDH set).
  • It might be a Euro pull-down, and the encode isn't great (I can only assume such problems don't exist on the Blu-ray).

For all the extras these releases get, Cine Asia's QC wasn't always up-to scratch.

Is it just me or is Jackie's face distorted during the Qin scenes? I don't know why he's dubbed during these scenes either (maybe his accent wasn't deemed suitable?).

Whatever aspirations the film had (also a big-budget production, free from the reins of Hollywood?), I think it's pretty lacklustre overall. What's more, it's technically tacky around the edges ('digital' production; the audio quality and dubbing sticks out), not helped by aspects of the DVD.

I can't find many details about the US DVD from Sony, but what was it like (re-edited? New English dub? Better subtitles)? Can't say I'm a fan of the cover, but maybe the presentation will be better.

I'm sure a Blu-ray now would be superior if done right, though I don't think I'd watch this film again.

Yeah I noticed this too. I was thinking maybe they tried to do some digital de-aging then something went wrong in the output process. Is this the same in all versions? I have the Joy Sales Avant Garde DVD Edition.
