Germany Hellraiser: Judgment 4K UHD+2xBR (Turbine Exclusive)

The original HELLRAISER saga’s gory conclusion will be released on November 7 exclusively at turbine-shop.de. We offer HELLRAISER: JUDGMENT on Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos in German and English. The limited edition 3-disc Steelbooks are available with four different full-slip artworks – each limited to 999 units. The edition was created in close collaboration with director Gary J. Tunnicliffe. The newly produced bonus material has become so extensive that we are including a bonus Blu-ray.

To anyone who lost faith in the series after the „Hellraiser: Revelations“ accident, we recommend this quote from dreadcentral.com about JUDGMENT: „Tunnicliffe has managed to successfully reboot a flailing franchise… Tunnicliffe does NOT shy away from the violence or the perverse nature of the Cenobites in the slightest bit, creating a world that is as repugnant as it is demonic. He also manages to introduce some sensible new possibilities and plot devices while delivering the fan service we’ve so desperately been missing… Pinhead is omnipresent, and Taylor delivers a worthy performance and is every bit as majestic as you’d hope he’d be.“

Features:

Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR10 & Dolby Vision – Approved by Gary J. Tunnicliffe
German & English in Dolby Atmos, DTS 5.1 and 2.0
Audio commentary by writer/director/“Auditor“ Gary J. Tunnicliffe (presented by Midnight’s Edge)*
NEW Audio commentary by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, „Pinhead“ Paul T. Taylor, and lead actor Damon Carney*
NEW The Making of HELLRAISER: JUDGMENT: Behind the Scenes of Pre-Production and Filming + Interviews with Cast & Crew** (approx. 44 min.)
NEW Meet The Auditor – An Interview with Gary J. Tunnicliffe** (approx. 48 min.)
NEW Chatterer Talks – An interview with Mike Regan** (approx. 24 min.)
NO MORE SOULS: Tunnicliffe’s Hellraiser short film* (approx. 6 min.) + audio commentary (presented by Midnight’s Edge)* + making-of* (approx. 7 min.)
Deleted and extended scenes* (approx. 17 min.)
Outtakes** (approx. 4 min.)
Kickstarter trailer*, US trailer, German trailer, HELLRAISER trailer

Certainly not a film I expected to get the deluxe 4K treatment like this, but hey - glad for fans of this entry!

Well, I think the movie got some (imho) unjust flak back in the day, so I think it's nice it has been given a second chance (and a deluxe treatment with the director's involvement, too).

Well, it's the best of the direct to video sequels by some huge margin, IMHO.

Weren't Turbine the first to advertise a 4K release for the first movie a few years ago through a mail newsletter, wonder what happened to that. I'm thinking, since it was so long ago, it was probably based on the 2K scan used for the BD release.

BTW, this movie exists only because Dimension Films had to make it to retain the rights to the franchise, so pretty hilarious it's getting the deluxe treatment. The manufacturing costs are probably bigger than the movie's budget.

edit: it was an insert

Inferno's my favourite, but I did enjoy Judgment quite a bit.

That was the movie before this one, Revelations, which was truly awful. This one is still very low budget but it was made to be a Hellraiser movie from the beginning rather than a mid-tier script reworked into a Hellraiser story like most of the other sequels. It had some good ideas, a decent enough story, it's one of the better ones.

IIRC the right-extending-movie was "Revelations".

They both are, there's a 7 year gap between Revelations and Judgement, at which point the rights-retention deadline was close again.

From the Wiki article:

Quote:
Unable to direct his screenplay for Hellraiser: Revelations due to a scheduling conflict, Tunnicliffe initially removed all references to the series from his Judgment concept and tried to have it funded as an independent film in 2013. He intended on making a "true" Hellraiser film because of his disappointment with the later films. Several years later, Dimension Films was required to make another Hellraiser film to retain the rights, giving Tunnicliffe a chance to propose his vision. The concept was initially rejected but accepted after he negotiated changes with the studio executives.

The Blu-rays will be region free, right? Leaning towards cover C or D.

I say that, and will probably order it later today.

That would be the previous one, Revelations (which was horrendous). They recast Pinhead once again for Judgment, though he did a better job than the other fella.

No, in Revelations he was portrayed by Stephan Smith Collins. In Judgment, by Paul T. Taylor, whom I found quite decent.

Just ordered the bundle pack. Never seen the film but that writeup on Tunnicliffe wanting to make a "true" Hellraiser followup sold me on it. I'm down for a return-to-roots entry.

Don't really care about the Pinhead recast. Bradley is getting up there in age. Plus, the actors are caked in makeup so it makes little difference.

He only ever appeared in a couple of shoehorned scenes in most of those DTV sequels. The scripts were clearly for another horror film and tweaked. They never expand on the "lore" or anything.

Man. I wish the HULU Hellraiser would get a disc release. It has its problems, but I actually really liked that one. (Especially the music queues from Hellraiser and Hellbound)
