Default Celebrating 300 years of the great city of New Orleans!

Shout out to all the posters here from The Big Easy. Having been there a few times myself from eating delicious food (crawfish, jambalaya, beignets) to taking part in special attractions (steamboat rides, carriage rides, swamp tours) to visiting historical places, I can see why it was the place to be.

Congratulations to your tricentennial. It took me awhile to recover from Bourbon Street.

It's my second hometown. My mom's side is from there, and we're actually having a reunion this summer. I was born in Los Angeles, but lived in New Orleans for a handful of my childhood years, and have been back many times since. Now I'm giving TX a try. Like you said, the food is to die for, the culture is one of a kind. It has many, many problems, but I implore anyone looking for an affordable vacation spot to consider New Orleans. I still say the best food in the world comes from there. The fusion of French, African, Cajun, and Creole cuisines are ridiculous.

Some years back, I saw one of my old professors in a GGW video getting beads from Mardi Gras. She was a few years younger, before she got her PhD.

Went there once when I was stationed in Pensacola. I always remember walking back from the bathroom and hearing someone shout "whaaat's up my n****?" and I turn around and it's this shaggy-haired, "tt" looking white guy talking on the phone

Good or bad there is no other city like it in America. Incredibly unique. You’re always aware that you’re there and not just in a generic concrete city.

Great city. I've been there twice - once in 2000, and again in 2010. Very unique culture, food, and architecture - there is definitely no other city in the country like New Orleans.

Not only was the vibe of the city great - I especially liked how you could walk around the French Quarter with alcoholic beverages in your hands & not get busted for doing so

I'm a big fan of the HBO series Treme, and this is my favorite song from the show's soundtrack. This was played over the last scenes of the series finale, and definitely encapsulates both the series & New Orleans to a great extent:

Been there many many times, being only a couple hours away. From drunken nights in the french quarter, mardi gras, wrestlemania, concerts, museums, Theme parks etc... I have done a LOT there

Not as big on the food as some are, was much more impressed with the cuisine in Italy when I went this year. Not bad by any stretch, but I am not as big on some of these foods as some are, hate crawfish with a passion.

WOW!!! I never thought I'd ever hear that from anyone

Maybe it was how they were cooked?

I used to live in New Orleans from 1989 to 1994 and there was never a dull moment. My family and I would head to Grand Isle every other week to fish and stuff. I remember one night with my little kiddie fishing poll I caught about 10 speckled trout on this bridge right here:

I've got visiting New Orleans during Mardi Gras on my bucketlist which I'm going to start doing it by the end of next year.

Something about digging in a pile of crawfish with a bunch of other yokels who I am sure dont wash their hands after bathroom visits, the fact they were dirtyy and had grainy texture when bitten into.. my wife hates them too, she is my soul mate. I have eaten them as part of a local dish served here in Mobile in which they are tolerable and shelled etc before putting in the breakfast dish "Eggs Cathedral" at Spot of Tea... a Grilled English muffin topped with crab cake, scrambled eggs and our homemade seafood sauce, made with blackened Mexican grouper and crawfish. Served with hash brown potatoes... pretty good and very filling

Are you sure we're talking about crawfish here?

Because... people in New Orleans everywhere that serves them don't eat them that way, what the heck are you eating?

I've got nothing good to say about the place. I was born in Baton Rouge, Dad is from New Orleans. Spent a formative amount of time in both places. It's hot and humid. I'm not a huge fan of the food. And Geaux Tigers.

Yes I am talking about crawfish... people all over have crawfish boils mixed with potatoes and corn, then throw it on a table where everyone digs in... it was gross. People down here in the south dislike washing their hands for some reason. I know there are other ways to eat crawfish, but in a boil like I have had it was disgusting.

there have been a few crawfish boils in the city not far from here. i've never been to one....but what you're describing sounds nasty as hell. i'm a big stickler for clean hands while eating and that just sounds like something i couldn't do.
