Default Are you REALLY invested in blu?

Just wondering how many have stakes in the success of blu ray that extend beyond their home theater.

Do you have any of the following in your portfolio:
sne mc sigm brcm dis nws twx tosbf msft

I'm a big supporter of lossless audio, esp. PCM. As a recording engineer who sometimes makes EPK's & edits clients DVD's(yes, I do it all, even my own tunes), it's nice that the technically superior format won over the one with cheap players.

Are you talking about movie purchase support? I have over 100 movies. I have 2 PS3 machines. Beyond home theater, I have alot invested in two theater systems. I would say I am in deep.

Sorry, did not see the poll on top here. I filled out now, still, I have plenty invested where it counts.

Correct, do you own stock in a company in the hope that the company's support of blu ray will lead to profits as everyone replaces their DVD discs and players with blu ray discs and players.

i own disney, but i don't expect to see a short term impact on shares until a few more years. with tv just going all digital in 2008 as a standard, hi def still has a lot of people to win over.

anyone with any blu-ray producing companies should expect the same results. just b/c blu-ray is winning and/or has won the format war will only reap benefits in the long term.

Its always good to get in on the ground floor. I bought Sigma in 2006 when I saw that the first gen BR and players were using their chipsets. At their peak last year they were up 400% from where I got in (now they are at about 300%). I bought MC when I saw that they were producing the uniphier chip (inside the BD-30k) on a 45 nm line. At this phase, the money is in the patents and chipsets, soon it will be in players, finally it will be in content. I own SNE incidentally through my largest mutual fund, which has it as a major holding.

ok, let me restate....companies like sony, mgm, dis, at the macro level will not see short term gains in their stock due to blu-ray. companies at the micro level may see short term gains. just like the the companies that manufacture ipod components.

I dont think because you may have a couple shares in these companys makes you MORE or less a supporter.. I know i've probly spent alot more than people who may have 50-100$ here and there in shares.

Just to buy 1 lot (100 shares) of one of these companies your are looking at $1600-5700, typically you buy a few hundred or a few thousand shares. So even someone who is dipping their toes into the stockmarket buying into a blu ray company has more invested than even the most blu blooded with 100 movies and a PS3 (~$2500).

I was just wondering because I see people talk all the time abought how "invested" they are in blu/HD DVD. A true investment is spending money in the hope of making more money later. But, no one has bought a movie for $20 hoping to sell it for $40 after they watch it.

alright well my first s1 player 995$, 599$ ps3, 899$ ps3, 147 blu-ray movies at 22$ (being generous) 3234$ guess I could have bought a couple "lot(s)"

oh and actually yeah the paramount movies make a profit.

To each his own, I just know that I am happy with my results from sigma. A special thank you to kjack (although I bought in before I even knew BR.com existed).
