The excellent French crime drama Engrenages, known as Spiral in English territories, is released on Blu-ray in France courtesy of StudioCanal.

Season 5 will be out in France on 17 December 2014:

In the UK, the series is shown on BBC Four with English subtitles, and all three seasons are available (on DVD only) from the BBC, with the fourth already available for pre-order on DVD only. Box set releases are also available, again, on DVD only

I would expect not, but they should have French SDH, so I will be getting them anyway. If the BBC were to put them on in the UK, chances are they would be 1080/50i, so it will be interesting to see if Canal also goes that route.

I am seeing some information to the effect that these French releases do not have any subtitles at all. Can anyone confirm?

the french subtitles for the hard of hearing are there.

wouldn't want to watch it with those on though (big and seem to be always at a distinct place)

If you haven't seen it, this is a series I highly recommend: gritty, addictive, dark, intense - one of those series where you find yourself watching 2 or 3 (or more!) episodes in one night because you just can't stop. It looked great on DVD (I bought the BBC version w/English subs) so I imagine it'd be gorgeous on Blu. But whatever your format of choice is, watch it: fantastic series.

i would have to compare with the DVD release that i also own but the few peaks i had of the first season in blu did not seem very convincing to me regarding the PQ (the colors seem to be washed out, i didn't remember it was like that on DVD)

when i have some time i will check about this.

For anyone who wants to get these, all four series are part of the current 5 Titles for 50% off promotion on Amazon.fr, which means you could add one more title in the selection and get all five for half off.

EDIT: Act quickly though, it seems that promotion is ending tomorrow (24 November).

Did this ever get released? I can find ENG subtitles now on subtitles.com, but don't know where to get the 720p or 1080p version of episodes. Many thanks for any pointers. Thanks!

Here's a suggestion, why don't you buy the DVD (with English subs) or buy the French Blu-rays and rip them and then download subs instead of stealing this show from torrent sites!?

Yes it’s really annoying when something is made in HD and broadcast in HD then gets shoved out only as a dvd!
