Default My Top 100 Most Influential Soundtracks

As someone who has been part of this forum for 8 years I felt it was time to give something back to the community.

Over the last few months I spent hundreds of hours listening to various film scores and soundtracks in compiling my ultimate list of the top 100 most influential soundtracks in my life. These are all movie scores and soundtracks that I grew up listening to and love.

Today I finally finished this huge project and created this graphic as well as posted the complete list on my website. I invite you and anyone you know who loves soundtracks to good films to check this out immediately!

If anyone wishes to leave a comment on my website, it will be highly appreciated! Also, please leave your top/most influential soundtracks below if you wish to add to this thread! Thank you.

You got to have The Third Man in there. It’s more a character in the movie than a score, just perfect.

On a personal level the soundtrack I’ve listened to the most is The Harder They Come.

Nice! I did include A Clockwork Orange on my list above! I also included several others on my Notables list on my site. But wow, I totally forgot about the Metropolis soundtrack!

I listened to The Third Man soundtrack again recently and shockingly did not resonate with it! But I appreciate this soundtrack very much. It just didn't make my top 100 (but is included on my list of Notables on my site, along with The Harder They Come)!

Sorcerer perhaps worth considering as the first Tangerine Dream US soundtrack, obviously wasn't that successful but I suspect a lot of directors were paying attention and electronic soundtracks generally did seem to quickly spread after that point.

For James Horners own career I think you could maybe go with Battle Beyond the Stars as well, that's really the birth of the classic Horner sound. I'm guessing he got the Wrath of Khan job on the strength of that soundtrack.

Wow, what an undertaking! ... kudos!

I think soundtracks are highly personal. That being said, these are a few that I can't get out of my head (... not including soundtracks with lyrics, such as A Hard Day's Night or Bye Bye Birdie). I'm sure there are countless others.

(In no particular order):
Psycho
The Third Man
To Kill a Mockingbird
Love Story
Wrestling Ernest Hemingway
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Maybe One Million Years B.C. (1966)

Really good list. If I were to do something similar, it would look incredibly similar to mine. I would add Ex Machina though.

I can't place the movie next to Under The Skin though???

If you mean to the right of it, it is Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010).

Not a single person has mentioned Basil Poledouris' Conan the Barbarian score. You are all not worthy!

Oh, I forgot to mention Jason and the Argonauts (by the great Bernard Herrmann). (My avatar would never forgive me).

I agree, Conan is a must have in a 100-list - objectively and subjectively :-)

Conan the Barbarian was one of the first scores one of my good friends recommended to me and I ended up adding it to my Notables list on my website above.

I totally forgot about Sorcerer. I love Tangerine Dream's scores.

And Fight Club, another great one.
