Default Kung Fury - full-length feature film

Quote:
Back in 2015, David Sandberg‘s 80s pop culture-obsessed short action-comedy film Kung Fury made waves across the Web for its over-the-top weirdness and insane action sequences. A few short years later and]not only is Kung Fury now prepping to become a feature film, it’s got Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender signed on for the starring role.

Variety reports that Fassbender will star as the title character–yes, his name is Kung Fury–a police officer in 1985 Miami’s “Thundercops” police force. He’ll be joined by David Hasselhoff, who returns after appearing in the original short. Sandberg will direct, star in, and produce the feature which aims to start shooting this summer.
The feature film will be set in 1985 in Miami, which is kept safe under the watchful eye of the police officer Kung Fury through his Thundercops police force. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon.

The short is fun, but I worry the novelty will wear thin in a full length feature.
Also not sure Fassbender is a good match for the role.

I see where you're coming from. At least some subversiveness to keep the feel fresh.

At least it's not the predictable choice of people like Seth Rogen or Adam Samberg.

Is that the love child of Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg?

Count me as another who loved the short, and I'm definitely interested in seeing a full length feature of it.

I don’t know whether this is the best or worst selected role Fassbender’s made in the last several years.

I don't know if I can take a whole 90 minutes of this. Even with the short I was kind of zoning out there towards the end as the joke was starting to wear thin. Still, I'm rooting for this to be good.

I was a backer of the original project. I'm kinda disappointed in this news. I was hoping crowdfunding would allow for a new era of filmmaking in which indies could by-pass Hollywood altogether. Alas...

Worked great as a short but no way do I see myself watching that exact same style as a feature length. I couldn't even sit through a full watch of A Scanner Darkly due to the aesthetic choice. With this, they'll probably change it to a similar but more 'traditional' way of showing off an 80s setting I guess.

LOVED the short! Watched it twice a day for the first week or two that it was released! However, a full length feature? All in one sitting? That might prove to be sensory overload. I may never fully recover from just one viewing of that!!!

Felt exactly the same way. A full length film seems like a bad idea to be honest.

This sounds so dumb, and it might just be the ticket to box-office success that Fassbender desperately needs.

They should try to get some 80s-90s straight-to-VHS martial arts stars in supporting roles. They'd fit right in.

No one sets out to make a career e-begging to make films. Once they do something that gets noticed, they will inevitably want to move on up to real filmmaking.

I'm sure they'll get some to round out the supporting cast.
