Yes, I had a pair of floor standers in my home. Nice natural sounding speakers, highs are clear, but not fatiguing, good bass without a sub. Having said that, I returned the Prime Towers in exchange for the Ultra Bookshelf speakers. I still have the Prime center (do to the fact that the Ultra Tower won't fit in my cabinet) and Prime Satellite (surrounds) which are awesome little speakers.

I demoed the speakers primarily with music, smooth Jazz. With that genre of music they performed well. Very detailed with a wide sound stage. I generally audition speakers with music and don't bother that much with home theater because if a speaker or speakers suck for music its worthless to me.

I have the Ultra Bookshelves on the way, if I'm not completely content, I will move to the Ultra Towers. BTW, I'm very skeptical of bookshelf speakers, never used any as mains, but most say you don't need Towers if you have sub woofers. I will see if they holds true when my Ultra Bookshelf speakers arrive.

Has to be bookshelves in my space. And thankfully the ultra books are .5" to wide (bit pricey for me). The Hsu speakers are cheaper and well thought of and fit, but the center is way to wide for that shelf. So I'm going to give these a shot.

What are you using as surrounds? I got my Ultra bookshelf speakers and they sound sweet. Wish we could change this thread to SVS Ultra/Prime series speakers.

Is there a thread for the ultras?. I'm using infinity primus 150's. So far I'm extremely happy with these. Was looking at the Elac, Infinity Reference, Emptek I series glad Elac was late with the shipping.

Would it be overkill to have SVS Prime Towers as rear speakers in a 5.2 configuration?

I have the towers as fronts currently (and love them!) but I am thinking of replacing my Bose 301's with the towers. My rational is I am starting to listen to a lot more HD multi channel music....

thoughts?

Hey what's up hedliniv? That would not be overkill in my head

I'd go with 4 prime towers and the center, ...this should sound awesome even without a sub ( for multichannel music ). For movies, you'll need to add a sub, or 2, ...depending on room size and other factors. We all have different tastes...enjoy!!!

Overkill, absolutely not!!!! I have always used large towers for front and surround, 2 subs and with multi channel music IMO there is no other way to go. As far as movies go they sound terrific with towers for surround as well. GO FOR IT.

Just talked to svs and ordered the prime towers and center speaker. I have their pb-2000 and their customer service is good so I figured I would try these speakers out. I almost went with klipsch but after doing some reading and talking to some others I decided I would go for these. What are you guys using for crossover settings?

Yes, if you're going to use a crossover and not run them full range.

What are you upgrading from?

I plan on upgrading my equipment over the next year or two. The first upgrade will be a PB-2000, but I'm also very interested in the SVS Prime line. My biggest concern is that I don't want a sideways upgrade, so it would need to be a pretty big upgrade over my Polk Monitors. Unfortunately there aren't any places to demo speakers around here. Just your typical Best Buy and HH Gregg.

I was using the pioneer Andrew jones setup with the svs pb-2000,before that I had the energy cb-20 set up and the svs prime stuff is way better. I just reran audyessy with the svs set up and changed my crossovers to what they said to use and it sounds great. The center speaker alone is worth it just because that was really my only complaint with the pioneers was that you couldn't make out dialogue really well. I tried diff. things but it didn't help so I pulled the trigger on the svs gear and glad I did.

I was reading that the SVS Prime are pretty harsh at first, now that you've had them a couple of weeks have you noticed that they have warmed up or did they ever sound harsh to begin with?

I'm thinking about giving the center channel a try as well.

I don't know if they sounded harsh but I have noticed they have loosened up and sound great to me. Everyone has diff. Taste in speaker sounds so you may or may not like them. I like them better than Klipsch horns which are to brigbt for me but my friend loves his klipsch. I almost went with def tech towers/center which would have been a good buy as well but I went with svs just because of their customer service plus I can upgrade to ultras by trading in my primes if I needed/wanted to. If you have the room and money the ultra center is a little better. Another friend of mine has it with the prime towers and it sounds a little better to me. I didn't have the room or budget for the ultra center so I went with primes. I just got the prime bookshelf speakers for surrounds and the svs SATs. For 4 Atmos speaker's. I am running 5.1.4 with a Denon x6200 and everything sounds great even with the upmixers. My next step is to get another sub and a external amp to go to 7.2.4.

I know you weren't asking me but I've had my primes since the first of June and I love them! I've recently added a PB-12 plus and love it also. I plan to add a prime center channel in the future since I'm so happy with the towers/satellites. For full disclosure I didn't have any speakers prior to these to compare them to but for what its worth I do love these speakers and wouldn't even consider returning them. Hope this helps.

I think SVS has an upgrade program.... might be better than selling your current one? You should check it out.

I'm going to upgrade my sub first, but I definitely plan on giving these speakers a try. I thought about running the Ultra center with Prime bookshelves, but I think my OCD would get the best of me. I wouldn't be happy until I had Ultra Bookshelves and at $1000 for a pair, I think my wife would flip She's perfectly happy with the Polk Monitors.
