Technically the announcement doesn't say Universal is dropping UV support from older movies; just that "select" Universal titles won't keep UV. It's unclear what that means although I agree with the original poster's implication this doesn't look good for UV sticking around.

So Universal's out... Paramount's essentially out... Lionsgate is out... don't know about MGM... looking sad for Ultraviolet.

The question now becomes... does Christmas come early and we see some of the holdouts jumping on board at Movies Anywhere?

This had gotten delayed twice, from 9/14 to 9/18. As of this morning's Zu Nim report, Vudu has axed granting UV rights for over 1500 titles.
