Cars
Ratatouille Underdog Scooby Doo 2001: Space Odessy Open Season Harry Potter 1 & 2 (3+ might be harsh depending on age, but go for it since you listed pirates and Spiderman's) Bridge to Tarabithia Cast Away Fantastic Four: Rise of Silver Surfer Dinosaur Sky High That's all I could come up with off the top of my head, other than what you chose. The 'excessive violence' is a hard one, because it's subjective and greatly dependent on age. No way I would let my two older kids (2 & 3.5) watch any of the pirates movies, or even be in the same room. The ghouls and beasties would scare them. In 5 years or so, sure. Probably, depending on how they understood things. ~Camper |

Dude all of the Matrix movies have a bit of Violence in them. There is no way I would let my 12 year old watch it. I aslo would not call any PG-13 movie a family film. They are not intented for the whole family. The ratings are there for a reason. Sorry, but I have strong feelings in this matter. Hopping off soap box |

The Polar Express
The Pursuit of Happyness Final Fantasy: TSW Invincible Those few come to mind in addition to the ones already listed. Pursuit of Happyness and Final Fantasy are both rated PG-13, but I don't remember any swearing in them. Final Fantasy has some violence in it, but only a scene or two of it is humans against humans, the rest is against "ghosts." The Pursuit of Happyness is also such a great movie, a really powerful story, which I think should negate anything that gave it the PG-13 rating, but that's up to you. |

I would add Surf's Up, Eight Below, and all the Harry Potter movies.
I would take out The Italian Job. Most of the movie would probably be OK, but the ambush scene on the bridge early in the movie has some f-bombs along with heavy violence and isn't something I would watch with our kids. |

Depends on how mature the kids in the family are, but Cars and Ratatouille are in. The Queen, but the kids would have to be mature, high-school age perhaps, (and perhaps intellectual kids at that) to not be bored with it. The Prestige, but not for really young kids.
But then, who am I to say? |

Back in the days when I was wee, my family considered any movie to be "family movie" if watched together as a family, even movies that scared the crap out of me (eg. nightmare for days) (movies like exocist, alien(s), etc)
I think I will continue the tradition with my kids. |

No, by definition that would include "Chicken Little", "The Wild", "Dinosaur" and the two High School Musicals, which might constitute child abuse--
![]() Now, if you'd said "Blu's entire Pixar selection from Disney", Cars and Ratatouille included... (And no, for the Nth time, "Meet the Robinsons" was not a Pixar movie, but at least it's as good as one. And Sky High's cute, darnit!--A little Disney-Channel around the edges, maybe, but not to dopey Santa Clause 3 or Haunted Mansion extremes.) ![]() Quote:
The "horror" is more tame and gothic-romanticized, so no graphic Sweeney Todd carnage between the musical numbers, but a few atmosphere-suspenseful moments... And since it's important to "Teach Your Children About Musicals Before High School Musical Does(TM)" ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 01-10-2008 at 12:34 AM. |
