I just received my copy and it appears to have a problem on the US cut, as the image blocks around 71mn then definitively at 72mn10. I tried on both my blu ray players and it has the same problem. Does anyone noticed that on their copies?
The longer UK Cut is OK, same for the supplements.

On the basis of which the UK version looks like shit, even allowing for the open-matte framing, and the Indicator US version has the apparently obligatory teal taint going on. Scream wins hands down on this showing......

They said the UK version was horrible looking, but they included it for some extended/alternate scenes. Not sure why that would factor in when deciding which disc is better quality-wise.

That said, I also don't see the teal tint. I think the Indicator US version looks better, imo. The Scream disc looks unnaturally brightened to me.

The detail on the Indicator (US) cut is at least double that of the Scream cut imho.

Shortly after Maggie and Pete, a couple played by Katharine Ross (The Graduate) and Sam Elliott (A Star is Born), travel from America to England, they are drawn by seemingly random circumstances to a sprawling mansion estate that is owned by a dying man. Our unwitting protagonists are soon joined by five incredibly wealthy guests, all of whom share a mysterious connection and have somehow anticipated Maggie’s arrival to the house. As these guests begin to die one by one in inexplicable accidents, and as a terrifyingly malevolent force reveals itself, Maggie realizes that her presence is no coincidence and that her unknown benefactor has sinister plans in store for her.

The 1978 British-American feature, The Legacy, which was directed by Richard Marquand (Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi), is a nifty outing that blends the supernatural occult horror trends of its decade with a murder mystery aesthetic in the vein of Agatha Christie’s novel, And Then There Were None, or the 1959 William Castle film, House on Haunted Hill. As a horror movie, this one takes an uncanny tonal approach because of its almost-cheerful music score and because its cinematography gives it the feel of the television shows from the same era, but the kill scenes, despite a lack of outright gore, are supremely shudder-inducing. The most iconic and unforgettable sequence, a swimming pool death that occurs early in the film, will compel most viewers to stay away from water indefinitely. If, like me, you have chills down your spine at the mere mention of a tracheotomy, then a later moment will have you curled in a fetal position on the floor of your living room.

The biggest star of The Legacy is the location itself. Singer Roger Daltrey allowed the filmmakers to use his mansion as the setting in return for casting him as one of the houseguest beneficiaries of the family curse. The expansive residence, especially its amazing indoor pool, works wonders with regard to the narrative at hand. Daltrey himself lends a contemporary edge to this otherwise quaintly Gothic affair, since the filming took place back when The Who was still the biggest band in the world.

Be on the lookout for Charles Gray, whom all of you know from the James Bond 007 films, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever, in a scorchingly memorable appearance as one of the ill-fated visitors.

Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott fell in love after meeting on this set, and were married in 1984.

This Powerhouse/Indicator Blu-ray sports a solid improvement over its already decent Scream Factory predecessor, with a nicely filmic look and an audio presentation that brings out the most in the underwhelming music choices. A historian commentary track, an exhaustively thorough booklet, and several crew interviews complete this excellent package.

I just read the DvdBeaver review and that too states the encoding error at the 71-72 minute mark on the US cut.

I'll hold off buying, sounds like a possible recall issue.

That review only states this:

Quote:
A note that some have mentioned that their discs experience an issue around the 71-72 minute mark (some saying 72:10) on the US cut. We should note that our screener copy did not have such errors.
So their screener copy apparently did not have any detectable error.

The weird thing was that when I tried to play the disc on my computer, the disc either would not even load or when it finally did it "locked up" when I scanned very far into the second half of the movie. I did get it to advance once... and it started to show "blocking" very badly, but at around 53 minutes into the movie.

I tried the above on both my computer BD drives and it did it in both drives, with both PowerDVD and Leawo players. I rarely ever experience something like that unless the disc has a physical flaw on it or something.

However, it advanced and played perfectly fine when scanning through on the Sony Blu-ray player connected to my TV... so I don't know what the problem was. I detected nothing through the section of the film in question or any "blocking" or compression artifacts either. Nothing happened specifically at 72:10 that I could see either. The Sony player (hardware modified) is built like a tank and literally plays any problem discs I have ever thrown at it such as this.

I did notice a very slight "contrast jump" at 1:11:48 for a split second that was noticeable, but may just be inherent to the master from Universal and not even an actual error. I'd have to check it on my Shout Factory Blu-ray to see if it also occurs on that disc. It's something that you could literally blink and miss.

So, yes I would say there is some weird playback problem with the disc...at least on certain players. Has anyone else tried playing it on a computer BD drive to see if they get the same errors?

Seems to be player related. See Katatonia's post above yours.

There are several reports on a couple of FB groups that there are severe issues with this disc, freezing, blocking and stuttering.

Folks are replying that they've tried them in a variety of different players and all have the same issue.

Hopefully Indicator will address this soon.

I think from the sound of the issue it looks like it's actually disc related, but a pressing and not an encoding fault. Just some players can cope better than others, or it's batch related and some good discs are out there.

Even if it plays in my Oppo (I haven't tried yet), I can't be sure it will play on a future player so I'd prefer to have it fixed!

My order from Indicator arrived today. Popped the disc into my LG player and had a look during 70-72 minutes (the reading on the stairs) and only noticed a very slight stability issue during the wide shot of the two characters sitting on the stairs but close ups were ok.
I did not experiance any blocking or freezing on my copy.

Yeah, that's the "contrast jump" (at approx. 1:11:48) I mentioned before, but "stability issue" is probably a better term for it.

I still need to pull out my Shout Blu-ray and see if that occurs on it as well.

I did notice in Indicator's latest email newsletter the other day that they are already getting low in stock on the Limited Edition of this, so it's apparently a good seller. I just hope they post an update about the disc issues.

Did you guys also check beyond the 71 minute mark because as soon as I skipped to chapter 11 on multiple devices the whole player locks up?

I can confirm, this release has a serious manufacturing issue.

-I've tried it on my PS4 Pro where I noticed something was off because it took way longer for the machine to recognize it as a Blu-ray disc. After a while I could start it and it would play. But skipping chapters around the 11th chapter mark would make my PS4 lock up entirely. It's impossible to watch it beyond the 10th chapter, probably due to a failing second layer switch.

- After that I tried it on my UHD Samsung player. It started quicker but as soon as I went to the 10th chapter it would freeze every few seconds and lock up completely at the 11th chapter.

- The Sony bedroom Blu-ray player, same story as with the PS4 pro.

All players are updated to the latest firmware, my PS4 pro never had any problems with any disc before.

As I directly pre-ordered from indicator/ Powerhouse, I made them aware of this issue and this thread from Blu-ray.com.
I know from experience and previous mastering issues from this company, that they are very good at customer service, acknowledge issues like this and do replacement discs each time such an issue occurs. This is however the worst I've experienced as of yet.
