I guess watching videos on the Defunctland and Theme Park History YouTube channels got me thinking, but what are some of your favorite movie-oriented rides/attractions if you've ever been on any? There's been some great ones at places like Disney and Universal I have fond memories of.
I remember going on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal (the Hollywood version) and it was an awesome experience for sure. Made you feel like you were right in the same universe as the movies, and the river ride aspect of it was a nice nod to the river raft scene from the novel. Still unhappy hearing about the ride closing down at the Hollywood location to be renovated and theme it after Jurassic World, I can understand updating the animatronics but why such a big overhaul to a ride that's good to begin with? I hope when it re-opens next year it isn't too terribly different from it's original version. I see no reason the river ride can't be kept intact and a completely seperate Jurassic World attraction can't be done. Jaws was another great one, a big favorite of mine from childhood. Like Jurassic Park, it had the feel and excitement of the first couple of movies to a T. Was crushed to hear it closed down. Actually a lot of the old-school Universal rides in general were awesome and made you feel like you were part of the movies and they didn't just feel like cheap gimmicks. Jaws, Terminator 2 3D, Back To The Future, the E.T. Adventure, etc. all awesome and felt very authentic. I get times change but it's sad that so many of these rides have closed down. I remember the old Universal Orlando back in the 90s and feel fortunate to have experienced it, from the looks of things both Universal Parks have changed a great deal and it's probably not quite the same experience. Indeed ![]() It's not likely to happen, but I'd love to see something like Universal Studios Classic, an offset of the main Universal park that has all the classic rides and attractions like BTTF, E.T., Kongfrontation, T2 3D, etc. more than likely would never happen but one can always dream. |

![]() Not to me. I feel it captured the feel of the movie very well and like the movie is very charming. It's a simplistic ride by today's standards but that simplicity is one of the reasons it works, IMO. Nothing fancy, just a simple and fun ride that makes you feel like you're part of the movie. Bit of a fun fact about the E.T. ride, it's said the sole reason the Orlando version is still operating today is because Steven Spielberg was reportedly so upset when he learned the Hollywood and Japan versions of it closed down he threatened to sever his ties with Universal, so to appease him the Orlando version was left alone. Here's to hoping it remains so. |

Forgot the Earthquake ride, it was fun from my memory. Never got a chance to experience the Twister attraction.

I wanna try that new Incredicoaster in Disneyland in the worst way.
Nostalgiaaaaaa. It’s a delight just walking through the queue, which adds to the experience. That ride has forever been legit. One of that park’s underrated adventure rides. |

Harry Potter & the Forbidden Journey. Best. Ride. Ever.
Also, Back to the Future: The Ride, Terminator 2 3D: Battle Across Time, Kongfrontation, Men In Black: Alien Attack, ET: Adventure, Jaws: The Ride, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Jurassic Park: The Ride, Revenge of the Mummy (Orlando), Earthquake: The Big One, The Amazing Adventure of Spider-Man, Transformers The Ride 3D, The Funtastic World Of Hanna-Barbera, Star Tours (original), Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT, The Twilght Zone: Tower Of Terror (Florida), Toy Story: Midway Mania, Splash Mountain, Mission: SPACE, Indiana Jones Adventure, The Incredicoster, Superman: Escape From Krypton, and Batman: The Ride. I also recommend watching Some Jerk With a Camera. One of the funniest, most creative people on YouTube. He does theme parks. Also Spazzmaster and Doggans. |

I'm trying to think if I've ever been on a movie themed ride. Biggest parks I've ever been to were Hershey, Kennywood, and a trip to Seaworld Ohio (that I'd like to forget).
I remember a Garfield dark ride (similar to the old Kennywood coal mine shooter), but I think it was cartoon/comic and not movie Garfield. |

I loved the Back to the Future ride. The very last time I went on it, a previous guess must have thrown up in one of the adjacent cars and the park staff did a bad job cleaning it up. Vomit mixed with windex smell - gross! Anyway I had no idea that ride lasted in Universal Japan years after the fact. But it would make sense knowing how popular the franchise is in that country!

other than the Transformers ride, my second favorite was the Minions ride - that was goofy and insanely entertaining. I thought the lamest ride at Universal Orlando was Men in Black - dull, dull, dull the longest to get into ride was oddly 'The Simpsons' - couldn't quite understand that 'Terminator 2: Battle through Time' felt antiquated |
