USA Chopping Mall & The Lost Empire - 2014, on blu-ray

Chopping Mall & The Lost Empire:

Director of the cult classic films Chopping Mall and The Lost Empire recently announced, on his personal FaceBook page, plans to bring Chopping Mall to Theaters again this Fall, and both films to blu-ray for the first time next year!

[On Blu-ray] Next Year! (2014)...

I was just thinking about "Chopping Mall" the other day, sayin' I'd buy it on Blu-ray in a heartbeat. Hell yes!!! It better be a stand alone release with some original artwork! Fingers crossed.

And as far as distributors go, its not with Scream Factory, they confirmed that they didn't pick it up, and it also seems that the rights are no longer with Lionsgate.

Its still possible, though unlikely, that Lionsgate themselves will be handling the release on blu-ray.

There really isn't a ton of info just yet.

4K transfers? Right on!
Maybe Synapse will release it? They're doing great work when possible.

Thanks for the shout out, redrunner! I guess I missed it but Scream denied their involvement on these? Shucks! Oh well, in that case, it still leaves 3 more mystery titles from them for us to speculate on. Can't wait to see these Wynorski gems make the leap to Blu.

Unfortunately, yeah they did deny it.

But on the bright side, that means we get 3 more announcements soon, and Chopping Mall still comes out from someone, on blu.

The Lost Empire's good too, definitely worth revisiting, hopefully soon.

In light of Scream denying these two, I suppose I'll be sticking firm on my original 3 guesses of "Night of the Demons", "Sleepaway Camp" and "Fright Night Part II". If anything else, I feel like the original "Sleepaway Camp" and "Fright Night Part II" could be substituted for the "Sleepaway Camp" sequels. Time shall tell

I'm guessing that these two may be self-distributed or a small label like Vinegar Syndrome will handle them. Wynorski is perhaps one of the last truly independent filmmakers in the industry today.

I think A) Lionsgate will be releasing it, maybe not funding the new transfer, but at least distributing it, or B) a smaller label.

Vinegar Syndrome, Synapse, Scorpion, along those lines maybe.

But my gut tells me Lionsgate.

I'll take 'em from Vinegar Syndrome! Who else could it be? Synapse would be sweet, obviously....Maybe Severin? Watch, it's probably Anchor Bay, and they're prepping a DTV remake of Chopping Mall as we speak.

You hit something I agree with there...in Lionsgate handling distribution but not funding the work that goes into creating 4k masters...I can't see Lionsgate investing that kind of money and effort into these titles. I mean I absolutely think Lionsgate should be willing to fund these types of titles in such a capacity but I don't now if Lionsgate feels the same way

Don't forget about Blue Underground. I know Bill Lustig's label has been pretty stagnant, but with the Maniac remake done and with Snuff and the Maniac Cop sequels on the way, he may be back on track.

Outrageous! Chopping mall is a blast. Just a lot of fun. Even my girlfriend finds this one amusing. I never imagined this one hitting blu-ray, and in 4K! Crazy talk!

Being released in theatres is interesting too. I wonder if my local artsy theatre will be getting it - probably not.
