Default Wicked City & Demon City Shinjuku to be released on Blu-Ray in Japan

Finally those two Anime classics will get a BD release in Japan early next year

Probably no subs on these, but if there are HD masters available, I am sure some western labels will pick them up.

Already posted it

No subtitles. As a Japanese reader, I can confirm that.

I kind of admire the confidence that these will be released stateside, when we have companies over here doing SDBD on series that have a legit HD master in Japan. And all of the titles stuck in licensing/publishing/etc. hell.

I'll probably import them anyway.

Discotek Media has released them on SD DVD, and will hopefully secure BD rights sooner rather than later.

I do have some confidence in Discotek. I think they will release these on Blu-ray unless the cost to license the HD masters from Japan is prohibitively expensive.

Hopefully they'll be rolling in cash after everyone buys 5 copies of Giant Robo.

35mm prints? I'll be curious how those will look if they didn't use pre-print materials.

The storyboards book that comes with Wicked City is tempting. I always enjoy looking through those...

I'll definitely pick up Wicked city, as it's one of my favorites; this was the first anime I ever bought way back in '92 I think.

4K remaster from 35mm negative. They didn't mention which negative, but I presume it's the OCN. If the recent Toei DB movie remasters are an indicator, then these two remasters should look good (aside from a color cast, but shouldn't be hard to fix for Discotek if they license the remasters)

OMG I want these so bad but not at those prices and with no subs.

Please let a western company acquire the rights so they could release these asap over here in the western world!

I need these!

I don't understand the uproar over the price. You guys not familiar with the Japanese home video pricing model? (Especially for a boxset with physical extras.)

Okay good. Though it seems an odd wording (I mean there have been very few release that do use and specify prints). Cheers to more 80s anime in HD...bring on Project Eden!
