Default Blu-ray in 2008 had way more catalog titles than 4k has now.

For me this is disturbing,it needs to step up its game a little.

The home video market was a lot stronger in 2008.

The Deer Hunter, The first three Rambo films, American Psycho, The Matrix, They Live, The Fog, Prince of Darkness, Escape From New York, Saving Private Ryan, Halloween, The Evil Dead all not “catalog” enough for you? Not to mention, a lot of older Blu Ray used DVD-era HD masters some of which haven’t held up so good.

With the amount of 4k currently out it, it has certainly exceeded my expectations. Especially considering how big streaming has became. I'm a huge fan of owning physical media instead of streaming. If the demand is there it will definitely show. Sure it's catching on slower than Blu-ray. I'm sure DVD was the same vs Blu-ray (could be wrong). With every new media format the difference becomes less apparent so it's definitely a harder sale. I love 4k and will continue to buy and support the format! People need to support it more and stop being cheapskates

Ditto. Not to mention 4K has finally given me a watchable presentation of “American Psycho”.

Really? You just mentioned 13 movies,I can guarantee without even knowing how many catalog titles were released on blu in 2008,its probably over 40 movies. 4k if im not mistaken, doesn't even have any classic black and white movies yet.

I guess you guys really don't see the decline in Disc Sales, it seems the only people buying Discs are on this Site. There is a Thread that shows Disc Sales, and it keeps going down. Streaming is taking over, Best Buy and Target are cutting their Disc Inventories. Everyone is going OnLine, but Discs are on the way out.

I don't give a damn how few catalog titles there've been. Honestly I'm amazed we've gotten what we've gotten given how niche the format was looking to be.

And just about all those titles look great (Poor T2...) so...eh.

Yeah, it also takes quite a bit more work and money investing to create a full 4K master with an HDR grade, particularly for catalog titles shot prior to the DI era.

I believe that we'll start seeing an uptick in release frequency when there are more inexpensive 4K players out there, and especially when it starts becoming financially viable for smaller boutique labels to begin dabbling in 4K for their biggest licenses. But for now I'm quite happy with the catalog releases we've gotten so far.

you won't see Friday the 13th or Nightmare series anytime soon since both are in the middle of a court battles for rights.

Best Buy used to assign like half a dozen people to work the media aisles back then and the in-store selection was massive. There were usually a good number of people movie hunting in the mid 00s. There were also still plenty of stores like F.Y.E and Suncoast around locally.

Sounds like you might just be upset that YOUR favorite movies have yet to make it to the format.

Hell, I'm just thankful for what IS being released! I usually only buy (or upgrade) movies that have replay value for me. Most 4K release I'll never purchase, but I'm still thankful we all have 4K options. We don't know what the longevity of 4K will be...

Put your money where your mouth is and buy catalog releases on the format instead of pretending the ones we have don't exist or aren't sophisticated enough.

Well I'm expecting Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Timecop, Hard Target, Lionheart, Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Nowhere to Run, Sudden Death and No Retreat No Surrender.

Don't even get me started on the Schwarzenegger titles I want.
