For fun: The actual Ark of the Covenant is located in an underground reservoir used to house water and which set underneath the first Temple. It was placed there before ol' Nebuchadnezzar had his military take Jerusalem...it's been there ever since During the earth quake that hit the 2nd Temple years later that split the Veil as well as Mount Moriah the temple set on during the crucifixion, Jesus's blood flowed out of his spear wound down his legs on to the cross post and into the crack which can be seen today if you visit Jerusalem...the blood then fell on top of the Ark's mercy seat which made him the official sacrafice.

I remember the local kids all getting together and going to the theater to see it. Good times. Same group went to see Temple Of Doom when it was released.

Still the defacto action movie, IMO. It’s tied with the original Die Hard as the best action films ever.

Perfectly cast, wonderfully directed, great balance between character development and action. This is how you do it, kids.

Imagine Mister Ford believing at the age of 39 that he would still be playing that character, who runs around, gets tortured, dragged across gravel and brawls with hulking baddies, when he reached 79.

Saw it opening day with my Dad and two of my sisters. I was 8. The critic on Today (Rona Barrett, I think) raved about it that morning, and said it was too violent for kids. Fortunately, my parents were in the other room.

I've loved it since I saw it, and none of the other Indy films come close to being as good. Happy 40th Anniversary to a truly classic movie.

At least he finally retired the Han Solo and Deckard characters for good

Too late. Walter Hill (director of The Driver) backed out of Alien as director (after being attached to it for months) when he realized that he wasn't a good fit for it. I wish Ford had that kind of selflessness in admitting to himself that the return of Deckard could only make the second Blade Runner worse.

I thought Harrison was Brilliant...I'd love to see him in a third Blade Runner. We will never get one but I'd still take it

Deckard is essential to 2049 and his relatively minor presence, considering he doesn't show up until about 2 hours, is brilliantly interwoven into the narrative of the film and his resonance with K.

Only because it was written that way. They turned a simple noir story into a tale of Adam and Eve. Like making the sequel to The Maltese Falcon the story of Moses and his people's exodus. Rachael was never meant to be that important.
