Director Andy Muschietti to Helm Live-Action ‘Attack on Titan’ Movie

After the record-breaking box office run of “It,” director Andy Muschietti has found his next project.

Muschietti will direct a feature film adaptation of “Attack on Titans” for Warner Bros. The studio finalized a deal with Japan-based publishing company Kodansha on Monday.

“Attack on Titan,” written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, has become one of the best-selling manga series with over 76 million copies in print since debuting in 2009. It is set in a world in which humanity lives in cities surrounded by enormous walls protecting themselves from gigantic humanoids that are referred to as titans.

David Heyman (“Harry Potter,” “Fantastic Beasts”) is producing the film with Masi Oka (“Mega Man”) and Andy’s sister Barbara Muschietti (“It” and “Mama")

Luckily I'm not much of a fan of Anime and Manga. I look forward to this one. Still need to watch the asian films.

Maybe an American version will be better though.

Never cared for the anime and have not watched the Japanese live-action version, but I like Andy's films, so I will give it a shot.

I've only seen Season 1 of the anime, and I enjoyed it. But the Japanese live-action films were atrocious. There's definitely room for improvement there, starting with being more faithful to the source (and I'm usually not a stickler for that, but almost every deviation was for the worse).

I watch the anime, but have only seen the dub. In it they there was a line about how Mikasa is the only Asian person they've ever seen and the rest is basically German (his name is Jaeger afterall), is it like that in the manga or original Japanese version? Even though I understand why all the actors were Asian, it still was weird. An American film should have better range.

almost all characters in source material are westerners already

Yeah it was one of the rare cases that people were upset the Japanese versions were all Asian. Made the plot point of the last surviving Asian person kind of strange.

And Fullmetal Alchemistas well. The characters are suppose German or something.

I'm not familiar with the manga, but in the anime subs, Mikasa is indeed the last asian.
