Well... I shouldn't respond as I don't consider myself a "fanatic", but I am most drawn to see anthology films (after getting hooked on horror with V/H/S/2). These are on my queue to see...
Southbound A Christmas Horror Story ABCs of Death (1 & 2) XX Tales of Halloween (any recent ones I missed?) |

Been watching horror since I was 5.
![]() Bavas Demons was the very first horror movie I saw. Nearly pissed me pants. A Nightmare on Elm street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, and Tales from the Crypt were just a few franchises I loved and still do. However only The Exorcist still frightens me to this day. Pure horror. |

I'm a true horror fan, and have enjoyed scary movies since childhood. I love the rollercoaster ride effect of being unsettled by a genuinely tense horror flick.
I also think that "horror franchise" is somewhat of an oxymoron. I love the Friday the 13th franchise and I return to all of those movies on a frequent basis, but I also think that the first two movies in the series are the only honest-to-goodness horror films. I also think that the 1984 film, A Nightmare on Elm Street, is the only true horror film of its respective franchise, although the sequels are fun to watch in so many ways. I feel the same way about Psycho (1960), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Halloween (1978) and its first two sequels, and Alien (1979). Once you know what to expect after the first movie or two of a franchise, then that horrific gut punch is diminished in its effectiveness with each subsequent film, even if all of the sequels still have some cool jump scares. I'll go with Friday the 13th as my favorite horror series overall, because those first two movies are just so awesome across the board. |

No I'm not a horror fan. I don't even have any horror in my collection. The closest thing I have to horror is Final Destination.

I love horror films! My Blu-ray collection is divided between two units - one with horror films and B-movies, the other with... well, everything else. In a way, Stephen King's It is responsible for my becoming a film buff.

I am admittedly much more pickier in some cases but yes, I've been into horror since I was at a young age, being exposed to stuff that I shouldn't have seen (my dumb ass father showed me things like Alien Resurrection and Event Horizon while one of my dips**t cousins told me about Chucky) and when I got a bit older, my mum showed me things like the Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises. My love for the Alien series also blossomed when I was around ten or so, maybe even a bit younger.
Zombie films for a while were also a good way to give me instant nightmares, with things like the Dawn of The Dead remake and 28 Days Later (the latter especially). I eventually got over that happening thanks to a bizarre dream I had. Later into my teenage years, I also explored things like Asian horror and older films, like Audition and Psycho, both of which are films that have buried into my psychosis and will never escape. This decade, I think, has been amazing for the genre, thanks to availability of digital equipment and the smart usage of lower budgets. Just in the past couple of years, we've had absolute gems like Under The Skin, The Babadook, It Follows, The Witch, Split and countless others that show the genre is willing to be more than just simple jump scare schlock and its amazing. I haven't been this happy about the direction its been going in for years and I hope the train keeps going. Last edited by The Debts; 02-11-2017 at 12:24 PM. |

Huge horror buff here. Been one since 9-10 or so when I finally got over my early aversion to blood and guts.
Big fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist, Sleepaway Camp, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, The Fly and Alien franchises. Also dig Halloween and Friday The 13th quite a bit too and even some really fringe franchises (Species, The Toolbox Murders and Scanners in particular come to mind). |

Just for starters...
Universal monsters, Alien series, Halloween, Friday the 13th, phantasm... Horror was one of the first genres I really explored. Still remember watching 1931 Dracula and Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein when I was very young. |

What does true mean? I have been a huge horror fan since I was a child but while I can acknowledge the importance of films such as Exorcist, Halloween and all the other 'classics' I must confess they never scared me. However there are movies such as The Blair Witch Project, Rec and Ju on The Grudge which genuinely scare me.
We are all scared by different things, horror is a very personal genre. I am sure there are people who would not call me a true horror fan based on the movies I respond to or not but that would be pretty snobbish. Last edited by wonderer99; 02-11-2017 at 05:51 AM. |

Yup. Halloween is fun around here. I put my Chucky and Tiff in the bay window one year, half the neighborhood kids loved it and the other half hated me. XD I've also got some other horror movie decorations like a Michael mask and a 19 inch Jason doll that they like me putting in the window instead.
I have a nice little movie collection, though most is DVD as I've only just recently started switching over. I have the Halloween collection as my sole blu-ray set, all of the A Nightmare on Elm Street except the remake (it was okay, but not buying it), Chucky (except Seed, ugh), about half of Friday the 13th (I actually liked this remake), Hannibal Lector trilogy+TV show (I don't care for Rising, I bought a copy when I lived in Japan but it didn't call to me), It, and Vampire Hunter D (if you consider that horror). |

Horror was the first genre I fell in love with. Nightmare on Elm Street is my favourite franchise followed by Evil Dead and Halloween.
