Default PRIMEVAL AVC ENCODING and outstanding PQ&SQ on BD-25

Link:

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/137508/

Video:

Resolution is stunning. The image remains crisp and dimensional even in darkness and the deeply saturated light, with no apparent compromises (softening or added noise) made or needed to make the CG more believable. I was never dissatisfied and hope that Lake Placid, Jurassic Park and all the other great monster movies still to come to high def, look this amazing when they do.

Audio:

24 bit/48kHz PCM

As great as the video looks, this disc sounds even better.

Blu_Tiger I like that you changed your avatar with your name change.

I was wondering about this title also. I love horror and I even like bad horror. So maybe it does not really matter.

I saw this movie on a cruise. As far as monster movies go, it was okay. It definately has one of the best side stories I've seen in a horror movie. And who can resist Jurgen Prochnow (Judge Griffin in "Judge Dredd") speaking about death?

Question Is Primeval worth buying?

Based on quality of visuals and entertainment, is primeval worth buying?

Visually, not bad at all. Quite good...

However, the movie is just ok-ok. I did watch the whole movie, I was kind of surprised that the side-story was pretty political.

The crocodile looked fake though.

Watching it right now. PQ seems good. Entertainment-wise, it's not my favorite movie in the world but OK. The political side-story is making it a bit better IMO. If you're not sure, rent it first.

PQ and audio 4/5

It's a horror movie on Blu-ray (so few of those). So if you liked Lake Placid, it is something to consider.

I saw it for the first time a couple of days ago and I enjoyed it. That 24-bit LPCM track was very nice! I believe HomeTheaterSpot gave the PQ a 5 paw rating. HighDefD gave the PQ a 4.5 star rating.

I got a deal on it so I bought it....It was an ok movie, similar side story to what goes on in blood diamond, but different..Africans killing each other and dumping the bodies in the lake = free food for Croc. Then this croc develops a taste for humans and is about 27 ft long. Bottom line, I wouldn't pay full price for it, but don't mind that I bought it.

I actually like that movie, if it's anything like that I'll buy this one. It makes it more interesting when it's a true story.

The story isn't true, but the croc is real and has been credited for hundreds of deaths. The true part is the civil war and subsequent body dumping into the river (not depicted) that caused the croc to grow to such a large size and develop a taste for human flesh, figure out they were easier prey or whatever the reason this particular one decided to start focusing its meals on villages.

I loved Lake Placid and enjoy both Anaconda movies too. Primeval's humor is a little dryer than Placid, but still there and it's a better story than both. If you're looking for substance, this isn't it. And if you know very much about crocs it may not be it either, as the croc in this movie is more monster than real in what it can do I suspect. But I'm no expert, only seen Steve Irwin a dozen times. If you don't demand realism with your monster movies, it was a lot of fun and believable enough from that standpoint for me.

I watched it last night, wasnt the best movie but it wasnt horrible either. The sound and picture quality were very good. I got it cheap so it was worth it for me but it would not be on the top of my list to buy at retail price.

way better then the crapola they stick on the made for tv movies,

"A gigantic crocodile with Gustave's trademark bullet scars was recently credited with attacking a group of fishermen at Ruziba, on Lake Tanganyika, ten kilometers (6 miles) south of Bujumbura, killing a man. This was reported by Patrice Faye, a self-taught naturalist who has tracked Gustave with an Ahab-like intensity for nearly two decades"

Default review and reactions thread for primeval BD?

How was it? Did it have a good plot? how was the PQ and AQ? Was the ending crap? Should I steer clear of this BD and find something more interesting?

PQ and AQ are pretty good, nothing to write home about. The story however pleasently surprised me, I was expecting a craptacular monster movie type thing, but it was actually pretty decent. The ending was a typical hollywood style ending if you ask me, no surprises and such, I'd recommend a rent, but not much more.
