Default Help in setting up my Denon AVR-689

BD Player: Oppo BDP-83
Receiver: Denon AVR-689
Speakers: Paradigm Cinema CT 110 5.1-Channel Loudspeaker System

Video = connects via HDMI 1.3
Audio = connected using 7.1 Multi-channel Audio Cables (Blue jeans), since Denon AVR-689 does not process audio over HDMI

Issue -
1. play DVD/Blu-Ray with superior sound (when I manually set input to EXT-IN only). Otherwise if I choose Quick Select 1 (Blu-Ray) it picks up coaxial input. Do I have to do that everytime?

2. no sound when I try to play CD with Oppo. After that I connects Oppo with a coaxial cable and hear some weak quality sound. I have heard that Oppo itself is a very good CD/SACD player? Is it problem with my setting, or because my speakers are weak?

Please advise since I have trouble playing with the receiver. Thanks!

Yes. The Ext In selection overrrides the usual digital audio input associated with a given activity. If you have a good remote, then the Ext In selection can be part of the commands that get sent when you play a BD with lossless audio.

How is your CD activity configured? What audio output are you using on the Oppo and how's the input configured on the Denon?

What are all those HDMI inputs for if the Audio-Video-Receiver doesn't process audio over HDMI?

For video switching/pass-through to a display.

This is Denon's BAD!

It is High Definition Multimedia Interface, right?

If it only does video then why bother with HDMI?
