In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale 3D (Schwerter des Konigs - Dungeon Siege 3D) [Region B locked]:
![]() ![]() Released in 2007, it received a conversion paid out-of-pocket by the director, and unleashed with a director's cut in glorious 3D... After having watched ITNOTK 2 & 3 sequels first. I was expecting a similar low budget flick, but I was so wrong. This is an epic! Epically bad, but a must for those who like watching $60 million trainwrecks. I can’t recall the last movie I saw with such an eclectic cast: Jason Statham, Ron Perlman, Burt Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Leelee Sobieski, Burt Reynolds, John Rhys-Davies, Claire Forlani, Burt Reynolds, Kristanna Loken, Matthew Lillard, and Burt Reynolds. None of them disappoint and they all chew up their scenes with gusto, notably Ray Liotta and Matthew Lillard. All these names you’ll recognize from numerous great and/or memorable movies of the past, brought together by the great Uwe Boll, to make a strange product only Uwe Boll has the talent to create. As for the 3-D, let’s cover the good news and the bad news. The bad news is, it sucks. The good news is, it’s better than an auto-conversion. At least I was able to make it through 160 minutes without developing a headache. The extended director’s cut includes a healthy number of extras including director’s commentary tracks in English and German, the-making-of, behind-the-scenes, and most importantly the interviews of pretty much the whole cast. It’s great to get their favorable perspective of the movie as it was being made. I wish I could have been at the premiere and had shell-shocked interviews of them after they saw the movie for the first time... I think a strong case could be made the extras are better than movie. I’ll let you decide whether this movie meets the so-bad-it’s-good threshold, but I’m very happy to have this in my collection. Lastly, it’s better than Ghosts of Sherwood! |

It’s a journey that needed help from three continents to achieve:
![]() Got the Brazilian and Dutch releases a while back. I only needed the first movie, but the German release of the full trilogy was cheaper. If I die today, at least I can say I accomplished this small thing. Now let's hope Boll makes ITNOTK 4 in 3-D. |

That fellow from Germany was less kind on his 3D evaluation ![]() "Evaluation of the technical 3D quality alone with LG Bluray player and LG screen (1920:1080=1.78) with polarizing filter technology, diagonal=140 cm + Strengths: None - Weaknesses: - Aspect ratio 2.4 does not fill the screen, slit image - Cheapest junk conversion - no spatial depth, no depth gradation: everything takes place in an apparent plane behind the screen" As far as Ghosts of Sherwood, 62% of 563 (349) gave it a one star rating (interesting that here on bluray.com it got a 6.1). As for myself, I'm also happy its part of my collection based on my comment made in May: "Actually I recall the 3D being quite good." |

Felt you were being kind because there was no further elaboration on how bad the 3D sucked compared to what that fella from Germany had to say..... ![]() ![]() FYI - this is what he says about bloodrayne's 3D: "3D to poor conversion 2D —> 3D Assessment of technical 3D quality only with LG bluray: player and LG screen (1920:1080 =1.78) with polarity filter technology, diagonal=140 cm + thicknesses: + aspect ratio 1.78 screen filling — Weaknesses: — Sparse room depth, barely depth stagnation due to far too small stereobase — Many dark scenes reduce room impression (what is ahead? 'what's behind?) — Staged depth blur 'this is not 3D! — Wiggle images and hectic cuts swirl the 3D brain" Guess he's saying that sucks too. ![]() |

This was the first Uwe Boll movie I saw that had some really good fight scenes and action in it, and an entertaining story. It's been a long time since I saw it though. I haven't heard of him making new movies in many years though.
Actually, I only saw about 3 of his films so far, but this was the best of them I'd say. Actually I see he's still making new movies every year. |
