USA Recommended Blu-ray stores in New York City?

Hi guys.

I'm visiting NYC in a few weeks and I thought that I'd try to pick up quite a few blu-rays on location. I obviously expect the prices to be slightly higher in the brick-and-mortar shops but it'll still probably be better than the total for importing with crushing shipping rates (usually $2.50-$6 per movie from the US to Sweden).

I would sincerely appreciate if any locals could help me out with a few suggestions of shops with decent prices and (preferably) huge selections. Anywhere on Manhattan would be ideal but I wouldn't mind venturing elsewhere for potential gold mines

Thanks in advance!

(By the way, I tried searching for similar threads but came up with nothing. I apologize if this has been discussed previously)

I live in NY and I would really consider J&R

http://www.jr.com/category/movies/n/4294826035/

Enjoy the experience and walk around that area.

Ground Zero, Lower Manhatten, Museums, History ,Wall Street, and
J&R (Joe and Rochelle).....They have like 6 stores on the same block
. . go to the Music/Video/DVD/Bluray store.

You'll be just fine. Their prices are really great and if you come out spending
less than $1,000 there is something wrong with you..

Good Luck!! Enjoy!!!!

it's located near CITY HALL (be sure to pick up a
SUBWAY MAP beforehand........

PC RICHARD beats them on price and ease-abilty of taking the gear home, though.
It's a hassle buying TV's at J&R. Trust me PC is way better on price.

J&R has a problem getting SAMSUNG LN's and other products (franchising due to PC's having more stores.. AND THEY REFUSE to display anything with HDMI cables. (only Component Video) (ouch!!!!)
they have their reasons . . . . . they're cheap . . .and the salesman are
always badmouthing them for really bad marketing of TV's in this fashion.

The savvy NYer goes there for everything else . . .but NOT TV's....
trust me . . I know . . they're starving downstairs . . compared to PC Richard. PC just took over a bunch of the closed Circuit City Stores and they have a 40 day price policy that can't be beat.
When I bought my XBR there I finally in the end, got over $400 back on my credit card
because I could (and did) prove lower prices elsewhere . .

check this out:

http://www.pcrichard.com/custserv/co...PriceGuarantee
ask them for a list of the merchants they honor . . .not all . . .but most . .

When I don't order online, I buy my blurays at Best Buy in Manhattan. You can find good deals and the selection is huge. For Criterions and such you would have to go to Borders or Barnes and Noble. As someone mentioned, ordering online is definitely the best option.

Default PC Richards does NOT beat J&R on price

PC absolutely does not beat J&R on price. The only advantage to PC Richard is that there are many of them in many neighborhoods, so it may be easier to park in front to lug stuff home. I buy air conditioners from PC Richard for that reason, but I buy everything else from J&R. And at least in my local PC Richard, the signal sucks--half the time they don't even put on an HD signal.

Examples:
Sony
52XBR9 J&R: $2200 PC Richard: $2496.
46XBR9 J&R: $1800 PC Richard: $2048
40XBR9 J&R: $1500 PC Richard: $1800
40Z5100 J&R: $1350 PC Richard: $1600

Panasonic
TC-P54G10 J&R: $1580 PC Richard: $1580
TC-P54S1 J&R: $1450 PC Richard: not listed
TC-P50S1 J&R:$1100 PC Richard: $1348
TC-P50X1 J&R: $800 PC Richard: $880

LG
LG 55LHX 55" Full HD 1080p Wireless LED 240Hz HDTV J&R $4200 (preorder) PC Richard: not on website

geez, dude wants to buy some Blu-rays not TVs, what is wrong with you people, PC richards doesn't even carry blu-rays, maybe few discs here and there but that's it.

To buy some blus J and R is your best bet, they have pretty good selection and the prices are mostly good. It's a huge store so take your time. Have fun.

If you would like a Blu-ray in advance (10+ days before the original release or "street date") check out Viva Game at St. Nicholas avenue 181st. However, it will cost you, usually the MSRP price.

with all due respect, getting the BEST price at PC also depends if you have a
cozy relationship with the salesman and manager of the store....
I know they can match J&R and beat it all the time. . . .They do more volume than J&R . ..more volume= lower price capabilities . . .they consider customer loyalty a major factor in giving or not giving a patron the best price.
