Originally thought this was a spin off of Belle from Beauty and the Beast from Disney, but this is an anime film. Nice use of flowing cloth and hair in the wind as an eye-catching effect of great animation.

I wanna see this because I loved Mirai but unfortunately, I'm in a bumf**k area that doesn't play stuff like this but somehow gets new screenings of Venom 2 again. I hate this.

Reception is pretty strong for this. I hope to see it, either in theaters or on home video.

Belle will be playing at my theaters, but limited show times this weekend. I am surprised Venom 2 is back in theaters, but now I see the connection to Spider-Man No Way Home's box office cash flow.

I saw this in IMAX last night (subbed, alternating showings with dubbed at theaters around me, so be sure to read the fine print if you plan on going). I enjoyed it immensely. Yes, it does interpret Beauty and the Beast a little bit, but there's more to it. It gets kind of heavy with its themes of family and community. It has dazzling visuals and a wonderful soundtrack. I'll have to own this on disc because the particle animation in certain scenes will definitely need a higher bitrate (evidenced by the opening scene on YouTube falling apart at points).

I saw it today, dubbed version. I thought it had a lot of neat elements and the main character was good, but the story kind of limped to the finished line. I had heard nothing about this and was the only person in the theater today at a 12:40 showing. Drawn by the critical acclaim. Definitely worth watching, but just a B for me.

Quite a good movie! A couple parts were slightly contrived, but I attribute that to some of the YA-intended tone. Animation was excellent, thoughtful themes were present, and so I recommend it. Might consider it if/when it comes to disc.

Saw the subbed version, wasn't a deliberate choice, just the most convenient showing available to me. There were a few moments of social media interfaces occurring in quick succession that made me wish I caught a dubbed showing instead (challenging to read subtitles and take in the visuals in those moments), but I enjoyed hearing Japanese voice cast. I'll check out the English dub when the blu-ray gets released.

My first theatrical viewing of 2022 and I already have a contender for favorite film of the year!

Thumbs up

I saw this last night, subtitled, in Imax. The animation is incredible. It's worth seeing in Imax for that (and the music) alone.

I was mixed on it. It involves two things I care nothing about: A virtual world, and social media drama. Some of the allusions to Beauty and the Beast seemed obligatory. It got more interesting when developing a mystery about who the Dragon / Beast really is. Something about it has stuck with me. I've been listening to the soundtrack, and watching clips on YouTube.

So if you're at all interested, I recommend giving it a try. I'm certainly open to revisiting it.

Checked this out earlier in the week and really enjoyed it. I do like its more optimistic stance on social media and its very real functions in reality, it could have easily becomes a cautionary tale that wound up speaking about the online world as if it was the boogieman waiting in the wings a couple years down the line and instead talks about it as something real that young people have to navigate.

Oh yeah, that Hosoda movie. Guy's alright, kinda mediocre. Doesn't hold a candle to his predecessors.

GKIDS' announcements for U.S. home video release dates. It doesn't seem like they're planning a 4K release for the U.S. (unfortunately...)
