Life is Beautiful Blu-ray Review

If there is a thread on this already, the search function isn't working. 7 academy award nominations, coming out October 4th, preorder up, only $10.49. Nice price. Don't remember much of the movie, haven't seen it in a long time.

I remember watching this movie way back and it was interesting and a good film just not something I am interested in watching more than once evy ten years. That being said for $10.49 I will consider picking it up depending on the extras.

I agree with you. In my case the movie touched me, and made me cry but, I am unsure I would watch it repeatedly.

Never seen this movie but heard great things, for $10.49 it's worth a blind buy for me.

Definitely one of the best WWII dramas ever made. I bought the Alliance version from Canada a few months ago for $15 and it was well worth the investment. I imagine the U.S. version will probably use the exact same disc much like Fox did with The Illusionist.

According to the Life is Beautiful Blu-ray Review , it seems tha the Canadian bluray has bettder video quality than the usa version. I have the Canadian version and the video quality could not be lower than a 4.5!

I do as well. This might one of the few instances where an Alliance title is better than the U.S. version. I am going to go ahead and add it to my superior PQ thread. I just looked at the screenshots for both versions and the U.S. appears to have some mild DNR.

I just ordered the Italian release. Since I was going to order something else from amazon.it, it added just 9.50 euro to my order, so I thought it's worth it. Italian release is 124 minutes long, 8 minutes longer than the U.S. cut and there weren't any complaints about the PQ. Region B so not for everybody.

The CA release is only 6 minutes shorter than the Italian release. I actually wanted to order the Italian release a year ago, but since it's region B locked I opted for the CA release.

aside from slight difference in PQ, everything else seems to match up with CA disc. no need for me to double dip then!

Yeah, everything else is the same. DTS-HD MA 5.1, 1.85:1, and English/French subtitles.

You're right, I think there are three cuts, 116, 118 and 124 minutes long.

It looks like the U.S. version got the short stick too. Folks in Region A should stick with the CA release and ignore the U.S. version unless you're fine with the Italian version being region B locked.

Thanks for pointing that out; I'll probably pick up that version even though this is not one of my favorite Benigni films. I found that his trademarked brand of physical comedy did not mesh well with the subject matter; he's at his best when he's not taking himself so seriously, such as in Il Mostro or Johnny Stecchino.

BTW, I'm guessing you're the same unclemat from LGT?...I remember having a conversation with you over there about differentials a few years ago. Small (virtual) world

With a low MSRP of $14.99, I hope I to pick this up and Cinema Paradiso next week for under $10 each!

I'll pick this up when it drops below $10, which should be fairly soon considering the extremely low MSRP. When I first saw this in the theater, I hated it -- like cyniclaus above, I felt the physical comedy didn't jive with the subject matter. This feeling was solidified after watching him act like an idiot when he won the Oscar for Best Actor. A few years later, however, my partner urged me to give it another chance, and perhaps knowing what to expect this time, I found it moving and was an emotional wreck by the end -- and that was watching a non-anamorphic DVD on a widescreen TV. I can't wait to watch it in HD!

For all of you thinking about buying the inferior U.S. version the Canadian version can be had for a mere $14: Life is Beautiful Blu-ray

Also, the exchange rate is the same. $1 U.S. is $1 CA.

FYI, you can purchase the Canadian release at iNetVideo for $7.99+shipping (roughly $2.50 per item to the U.S.).

I went ahead and placed an order for Life is Beautiful/Butterfly Effect/Equilibrium and used a promo code SEPTSAVE5 (which was advertised as $5 off an order of $20). Total was $30 shipped for the three movies, yeah yeah Equilibrium isn't OAR, but I decided it isn't worth 60 bucks to me.

If you're looking to get to the $20 threshold to use the promo code, other titles I've purchased in the past from iNetVideo include City of God, Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and 21 Grams (none of which are currently available in the U.S.).

I would have saved that $10 on Equilibrium simply because it's not OAR. I still have my Japanese HD DVD, which is identical to the Japanese BD.
