As of today, my Blu-Ray player insists on showing everything in full screen, 4:3 - from the player menu to whatever is on the disc, even if that's not the correct ratio for what's playing.
I've tried resetting the unit and unplugging it. I checked for a firmware update. None of worked. Also, instead of displaying the disc's title on the player's menu screen, there's a bunch of empty squares instead of letters. I've had this full-screen issue with it before, but now it seems persistent. In the past, just turning it on/off helped. It's a Sony BDP-S3200 that's about 4-5 years old. I don't have this issue with other stuff connected to my TV, like the cable box. Any ideas or is probably time to bite the bullet and replace it? I could consider a 4K player but don't have a 4K display yet and probably won't for 1-2 years. But it'd be nice to have when I do. |

I just turned the player on again - it's back to taking up the whole screen but still get garbage characters where it's supposed to say what the disc is inside. The disc is practically brand new, and worked fine before. I doubt that's the problem. Maybe I should feel lucky I got 4-5 years out of this unit. |
