In 1968, visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull (The Andromeda Strain, Close Encounters of the Third Kind) contributed to the ground-breaking special photographic effects of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Four years later, he stamped his own indelible mark on the science fiction genre with his mesmerising directorial debut – Silent Running.

In the not-so-distant future, Earth is barren of all flora and fauna, with what remains of the planet’s former ecosystems preserved aboard a fleet of greenhouses orbiting in space. When the crews are ordered to destroy the remaining specimens, one botanist, Freeman Lowell (Bruce Dern, The ’Burbs), rebels and flees towards Saturn in a desperate bid to preserve his own little piece of Earth that was, accompanied only by the ship’s three service robots.

Hmm - what happened to the interview where Fran (or someone associated with Arrow) said there'd be no 4K upgrades of any titles released after they started releasing them? No one else seemed to have noticed it but I absolutely am confident such a thing was said.

(There's a credible argument, I suppose, that because they probably have acquired the license for the UK as well this time that they just were making a 4K edition for them and are bringing it over here the same time).

Yeah, yoloswagmaster420 pointed it out the other day when it was strongly implied this was coming out. Perhaps this release was planned much earlier on, and got delayed, I don't know. Or maybe they're exploiting a loophole since this is likely getting a UK release from Arrow too, and they've technically never released it over there

It probably will be UK as well. I found it at a NA website, so no UK releases are known yet.

Tactical use of the mute button will solve this issue, allowing you to love the film without intermittently wishing for your early death every time that gal gets her wail on. She has all the charming vibrato of a billy goat.

Just watched and really liked the Blu-ray. Might wait for a 50% off sale to grab this one. That's when I plan to get the UHD of 12 Monkeys also.
