Talking Visualise it

What PS3 Music Visualisations would you like to see your music played to? The default colours and watery effects are alright, the plain 'XMB silk' effect is pretty, the earth is pretty stunning... but what other visualisations would you like to see? I'd like to see an editor like the one in winamp.

WHAT I'D REALLY LIKE TO SEE IN HD HOWEVER... given the incredible power of the PS3, its ability to do HDR lighting and translucence (ie: red light transmitted through skin) is a visualisation of a human foetus!!

"Eh?" I hear you say... well look at this pre-rendered video from the national geographic documentary that someone made into a music video and ask yourself if you would like this in real time on the PS3 in HD. Let face it... the PS3 could probably do it justice!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIYZ9HRKags

What else would you like to see as a vis?

EWWWW, JK, i kinda think that is slightly weird to say the least but i can see your point to have something like that as it would create an impressive visualisation

I guess personally it would be pretty cool to see Sony let us make our own music visualisations much in the way we can make themes

That way they would only have to make a few & we can choose for ourselves what we want to have as a visualisation

i really like some of the vizulations they have on the psp. i like the very generic sound meters. or the one that kind of reminds me of CEOT3K and how they displayed what notes were being played.

i would like to see one where you are in the air, almost like skydiving view, and you fall towards the earth, but you just never get there.

I agree, I like some of the PSP ones, although, they don't really compare to the PS3 ones.

The Skydiving one could be cool. To expand on that idea:
Clouds would "dot" the horizon depending on the music (many or few) and rush towards you.
I would like different day and night scenes.
And then a funky one that changed colors.
And a strange one with irregular/wavy clouds.

How about a "Rain" visualization.
A nice setting with rain, and the rain changed intensity depending on the song. Could also have "Snow" settings with this and "Leaves" falling for different seasons/scenery. By the end of the song, the ground should be covered - and then a new setting appears - (or for the rain one, a rainbow).

I really dig these things. I love having company over and having cool visualizations on my t.v. instead of just have a 65" t.v. with a blank screen.

The Earth vis was wonderfully done. I truely look forward to more.

I think eventually, SCE will open up visualizations to first/third party as a seperate download and not a firmware download as we get it now. That way, it frees up firmware bytes to other more important things.

I would like a visualization that reads the ID tag for type of music and then construct an artificial landscape based on the waveform of the music and populate it according to the ID tag. For example, a rock song can be a city where the city lights go up and down to the music. A New Age song can be a forest where the camera movement is dictated by the BPM of the song.

I also want first/third party DJ program for the PS3. With the power of the Cell, seamless mixing can be done effortlessly for a house/block partay.

A timelapse nature or cityscape would be cool too I guess... like the early GTA4 video showing timelapse new york showing off realtime 3D and lighting.

My PS3 is now my music jukebox/CD player... or people plug their mp3 players into it and I spread my sound through my house via my AV amp and zones. Occasionally I get someone round who's never seen a PS3 before and rather than boring my family to death (not to mention being unsociable) with games and stuff, I just leave it running a visualisation.

This was the case over Christmas, my uncle (to this point a 360 junkie) came into room and was greated by the HD Earth visualisation and that alone impressed him enough to go out and buy a PS3 for himself (albeit showing of GT5P, Warhawk, Motorstorm, BUZZ (PS2), and various blu-ray movies helped sway his decision to invest). Sadly he got the 40GB version.

I just thought of another cool visualisation:

(Bare with me on this) My uncle was blown away when I got on warhawk with a sniper gun stood on a turret in my base and said "you see that base over there" (looking at the tiny base on the opposite side of the map) "Yeah", then promptly got into a Warhawk hovered and ascended as high as I could go saying "still see it?" to which he replied "yeah". Then I hit the flight mode and boosted suicidally towards the opposite base and landed. So what? Well he was blown away by the view distance, overall size of the level and clarity of detail at all times.

So... image a densely organic scene or area or whatever and you're seeing it from the point of view of a flock of birds migrating and then landing. Basically zooming in and out of a rich landscape.

This could also lend itself to a school of fish or something.

Imagine the earth vis doing what google earth does, zooming into landmarks and panning around them in 3D in time to the music, etc. On Playstation 4 you'll start with the earth view and zoom into Monument valley and see a full 3D race from motorstorm then zoom back out to earth and then zoom into various live GT6 races... all from the music player screen. It could happen!?

Sorry for the long winded examples... I'm just a sucker for details and have a highly developed imagination...

... that and I've drank lots of coffee today.

One more... how about a 'PAIN' style visualisation but instead of the game characters running around and thowing themselves through sharp objects its the HDDVD logo breaking itself on a destructable environment while a crowd of blu-ray logos look on. I suppose this wouldn't work... you wouldn't want to listen to the music, you'd just want to hear the screams of hddvd owners/backers/fanboys/etc screaming with anguish, and writhing in agony as blu-ray owners sit back in their armchairs smug in the knowledge of "I was right!".

I'm going to go do something else now.

Exact same situation here. I don't want to be unsociable - and the vis stuff is great.

Even my wife liked the Earth Vis. And it went great with the Christmas music.

Someone said that Radiohead went great with the Earth Vis - I tried it - they really pegged that one.

Sound good.

I'm definitely up for more cool visualizations. I love these things.

Personally I'd like to see SCE contract Jeff Minter who is probably the go-to guy on music visualizations having done the enginer that was included in the Atari Jaguar CD, Nuon DVD, and now X-box 360 (IIRC). Even his stuff from the Atari days was significantly more interesting and interactive than what's currently available on the PS3. Chop chop Paid.

All the Minter visualisations I've seen, including the 360 one have a very low-res retro look to them that I don't think fits well with the PS3 and the visualisations already on it. They are more descriptive though.

I'd think that the level of detail in the visualizations would be largely hardware dependent. I'm sure he could do a bang-up job on the PS3 but even if it were lower res I'd still love to have more variety and interactivity.

Something I do for partys is fill my photo albums with funny images or high res scenery I found on google, or just general photos. (If its just the lads coming over then HD bums (of the female anatomy kind)). I play music and return to the xmb to start a slide show. The photo drop effect (slideshow 1) is always good.

I like the Motorstorm background on the menus... I know its a pre-rendered video, but its excellent at maintaining the 'festival' feel of the game. A real time 'Glastonbury' or 'Ozzfest' flyover would be an interesting visual for rock/electronica/alternative music. Could even have downloadable band models/skins that come on stage according to the MP3 ID3 tags.

Yeah, I've done this, but with family photos when family is over.

I hadn't thought of putting together an album of funny images (not sure if the wife would care for the HD bums . . . . but I could give it a shot. )

For friends coming over - I think the lol cats would be good (for when kids are over or to keep it more family oriented).

Good idea egon.
