Default Anyone else waiting for the 256gb ss hd for the ps3?

I was wondering if anyone else is sticking with their current ps3 harddrive and waiting for the 2.5" solid state drive to come out and actually be affordable. i know they are ment mostly for laptops but i wouldnt mind having one in my ps3. it would be so much faster than conventional drives, run cooler, and save on power. i think the biggest one out right now is a 128gb for $1000, while pqi has a 256gb that will be right around the $2000 mark.

the ps3 would need a frimware update(if not already included) to use the ssd (i know the ps3 can use 7200rpm drives but with warnning and that its meant for 5400 rpm same sisuation sorta)

right, the 7200 rpm drive would be louder and create more heat. i like the idea of ssd not having any moving parts to create vibrations, faster write and read times, less power used, and no noise.

Would it? I haven't looked at ssd given the price .. but I would have assumed they (will) have SATA connectors and shouldn't require special drivers ... since that would really slow adoption as the prices fall.

I'm looking forward to replacing my Mac mini and PS3 drives with SSD's but I don't expect them to be affordable this year.

i bet we'll see fairly cheap 32gb's this year, but not 256. not sure about it needing a firmware update, i'm sure it works just fine but i can't wait to replace all my drives with flash drives. hurry and drop those prices!

Waiting on one of these for my Macbook Pro. Way too fast, IMHO, for a gaming machine that is so dependent upon optical I/O.

most of the early adopters will use it for a laptop, thats a given. but i think it will get its second wind from the ps3. i just wish sony would have put a 3.5" disk in so that we would not have to wait as long. but i understand that the bigger size would complicate alot more things. ss drives are bad ass though.

To add on, they shouldn't require a firmware update anymore than they would require a bios update for your pc.
