I was gonna say, haven't the director and DP both been critical of the US disc? I wonder if this is a new grade.

Dammit, I forgot about this. I was only going to watch it on blu, but have since gone back to the UHD. It would be awesome if Eggers and Blaschke were involved.

Edit: I might skip this, too. The previous 4K was upscaled. I wonder whether this will be like SS's release of Babadook, which was also upscaled.

If you listen to the Deakins podcast Eggers himself doesn't seem to mind the HDR - and he's critical of the underlying digital capture anyway, saying that the texture of the image doesn't vibe with his vision of the source material (though film didn't exist back then, so...) - but the DP literally says "don't watch it". Hmmm.

Anyhoo, just heard back: the HDR master will be supplied as-is by A24.

I'm still convinced the main problem with the US UHD (the milky as **** blacks vs the BD) is some sort of authoring error and won't be on the actual master.

Hm, the previous master had a couple of issues with the grading, as well as the brightness, imo. They should at least tone it down a bit (i.e. Black Phillip's human form).

I've raised that as a possibility, yes, that the US UHD had a levels error and so it'd be worth comparing it to the master once they get it.

Not just the UK, but pretty much every international market, which also happened with Ex Machina, The Lighthouse and others.

Sucks that I hated this movie but here's hoping they do a version of The Lighthouse on 4K disc like this one.
