I mean it seems clear they do these releases for their more niche films that probably won't sell much in wide release...they're a little more expensive (although not by that much tbh) but I'd 1000% rather this happen than them never get any releases at all

I also know it's divisive but I really love the packaging on these releases too

I haven't seen this, and I'm trying to lay off blind buys, but man this looked interesting...

...so I bought it.

"A little more expensive" when you live in the US but not for me. With shipping this would cost me $79.39. No way in hell I will pay that.

That is fair, didn't notice the location on your bio. International shipping costs definitely suck

I hate A24’s over the top sized packages. Hopefully this gets a foreign release in a standard sized case.

This is the style--the one with the barcode on the side--that is a standard height and just slightly thicker (like Criterion thickness, maybe not even that much). Their releases without the barcode sides are the ones in harder and taller cases

Looks nice…

But I already bought the Australian Blu-Ray, which was cheaper than this ($25.54 USD including shipping). It’s most likely a port of the Canadian release (VVS Films distributed the movie in both territories), which appears to have the same special features as the shop exclusive (though it only lists one featurette on the back).

Where did you get the Canadian release that cheap? The Canadian outlets I looked at, for shipping to LA, moved the cost to around $36-$37, which is pretty much the same as this release.

I got the Australian release, which has the same distributor as the Canadian release — VVS Films. Got a copy of JB Hi-Fi, it’ll be arriving tomorrow.

That appears to be a solo commentary track, opposite happened with Saint Maud (and other way around with Evil Dead Rise.)

Seems like if they have a normal release through Lionsgate, they do the large size stuff for the A24 exclusives, but if it doesn't have a wide release (Marcel the Shell, Aftersun) then they're standard sizes.

This is the one where somebody's looking for her dad or something, right? I'd need to see it before buying but it was something I was interested in seeing.

Yeah I've noticed that trend as well

I would not say this is about finding someone's dad, but a person's dad is involved with the plot so maybe there was just a trailer misunderstanding or you're thinking of something else haha

Not that the movie was about finding her dad, but when Kristen Stewart was on a late night show the clip they showed was somebody coming to her job trying to find her dad or something and then she talked about the actor getting a "skullet" like her real dad.

You’re not wrong, a guy comes into Kristen’s job seeking info about her dad.

I decided to opt for the Blu-ray version, even though I've been looking forward to seeing this movie since the first trailer. It's my first time ordering something from A24 directly.

My Australian copy just arrived, it turns out it is the same commentary that's on the A24 shop exclusive, with Rose and Weronika. Meanwhile, the featurette on the Australian/Canadian disc is just the one you can find on A24's Youtube.
