![]() Mr. Movies retail rental stores rent 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and 3D Blu-ray discs Redbox and Netflix standard 2-D Blu-ray disc rentals have replaced 90% of all rental stores. However, both Redbox and Netflix do not offer any 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc rentals and almost no 3-D Blu-ray rentals. In the Midwest there are some Mr. Movies locations. At one location I visited there were several Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and several Blu-ray 3D discs on the store shelf for rent for only around $2.65 a day and around $2.35 a day for standard Blu-ray rentals (prices within 10 cents, I might not remember the exact prices, and different locations might have different prices since they are individually owned and not corporate chain stores). To make things even better on Mondays all 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays, 3-D Blu-rays, and standard 2-D Blu-rays can be rented for only 99 cents and are due back on Thursday by 9PM. That is incredible one can rent a Blu-ray for 99 cents for 3 days (and all the Blu-ray discs are full retail versions with bonus features that are rented). Redbox charges $2 a day for Blu-ray rentals that are many times rental versions instead of full retail versions. Mr. Moives is the only place that I am aware of that rents both 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and Blu-ray 3-D discs. The only issue is I wish I lived near a Mr. Movies location to take advantage of the best video store in existence. It’s too bad Redbox and Netflix do not start offering consumers 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc rentals and Blu-ray 3-D rentals (That would encourage more consumers to purchase 4K and 3D equipment if the Blu-ray discs could be rented). At least the Family Video store has a website, Mr. Movies does not. Family Video is a huge chain store and most likely the biggest video rental store still in existence with several locations in some states.
I have not stopped in a Family Video store since there is not one near me. However thanks for the information regarding them renting Blu-ray 3-D’s. If they start getting 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays in the future that would be awesome. Blu-ray owners need to support the last remaining video stores like Family Video, especially if 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs rentals and 3-D Blu-ray disc rentals is a reality (People need to email and call their local Family Video store to request 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray rentals, then the store most likely will start carrying them). Click on the following link to find a Family Video store near you. http://www.familyvideo.com/locations.php |

I didn't realize Mr. Movies was still in business. My area had a ton of Mr. Movies locations open in the mid-90s and I used to go there every week because every rental (except current week releases) was $.49 on Tuesdays, but every area location had closed by around 2004. I figured the chain had closed down.

Yes they are still located in small towns around 10,000+ people. They are no longer a chain store but instead individually owned. |

I do not live near a Mr. Movies location. However it is my understanding that there was only one store left in the nation. People on Mr. Movies mailing list are getting post cards in the mail today mentioning that Mr. Movies is going out of business and they are clearing out of all their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray rentals, Blu-ray 3D rentals, and standard Blu-ray disc rentals. This is most likely the last store in what use to be a big chain of stores. The REDBOX's that rent Blu-ray's for $2 each are all around town.
I think Family Video is the only nationwide movie rental chain left with a few stores in existance. There are over 42,000 automated REDBOX machines for Blu-ray/DVD rentals nationwide. REDBOX ran the rental stores out of business with their cheaper prices. Perhaps one day streaming/download rentals within 5-10+ years might replace REDBOX machines. |
