Default Blu-ray gains another newbie

Hey guys! I've been pro Blu-ray for a little over half a year now. I don't have a Blu-ray player yet, but that will soon change. Anyways, for the past 6 months or so I have been educating myself on High Def Media, and I'm on the Blu side. I purchased my first HDTV (Samsung LN-T3242H) early December and now I'm ready for Blu-ray. Even though I don't have a BDP yet, I've already bought a few BDs!! I used that $20 for 3 at BB today and got Superbad, GoodFellas, and Training day. Plus on Amazon's BOGO I bought Harry Potter 1-4 and Full Metal Jacket Deluxe Edition. I'm so ready to get a BDP, but I'm still waiting for the right price. I know I want a standalone player, because I don't really play video games. I've been looking at the Samsung 1400 and the Sony 300, more on the Sammy side tho (hint my Sammy HDTV). Also I'm waiting for one to hit the under $250 price. I've seen some under $250 on the net, but to be honest I don't feel safe buying from shady dealers I don't even know. So if anybody has any advice at all it will be greatly appreciated!!!

The Sony BD player has a much better track record for reliability and even plays BD movies unlike the Sammy.

I bought mine from the Local Best Buy in April 2007. I own a samsung hdtv and a samsung Blu-Ray player. As you probley know the newest player is the bdp-1400. This is a very nice player. From personal experience Best Buy is the place to buy HD gear. When I bought my player, they offered a 4 year service plan, that lets a technician check in annually. This is very handy. I have had a very good experience from them, and would highly recomend them for your buisness. ( and no im not a best buy sales rep.)

Well I'm glad that I'm helping the movement!!! It's so obvious Blu is the way to go. When I was in BB out of the whole High Def section, Blu-ray took up 3/4 of it

for the BB deal you have to be a member of the BB rewardzone (free to sign up) then there's a post on here somewhere where you can print the $20 off for any 3 blu-ray movies coupon which expires on the 14th. I got Superbad, GoodFellas, and Training Day for $43 and some change.

I just moved to Blu-ray also, and went with a PS3. Love it! Seriously, there's nothing not to like about it!

I have a PS3 and a 1400, you can't go wrong with either one. Just do your updates when you get it, dont try to play any movies until you have done the update.

Also, the 1400 is easier to update than the S300 becuase the 1400 has a hookup for an ethernet cable. I have had zero problems with my 1400, Just do the updates when they come out and its a great player. I got mine from amazon btw!

Welcome to Blu-Ray! I got my BDP-S300 in August of '07 and I love it. With the latest firmware the load times are not bad, and I needed the analog audio outputs so I could get uncompressed PCM on my old receiver. Take your receiver into account when getting a player so that you get the sound you want. Again, welcome and good luck!

Don't be afraid of the PS3 as your BD player. Even if you NEVER use it for games or it's other advantages. Here are some great reasons to choose the PS3 as your primary Blu-ray player:

1) Fully profile 2.0 compatible (the only one that is on the market at the moment)

2) Can be setup to automatically play the Disc once inserted. (effectively making it act like a stand-alone player, no need to go into any PS3 menu)

3) Blu-ray disc player remote control available. (again to make it act as a stand-alone player, no need to use PS3 controller as a remote)

4) fastest loading player on the market (stand-alone players can take a full minute or more just to load the movie, PS3s are as fast as DVD players)

5) CHEAP!

6) Much better resale value

7) Wireless Internet

I could go on and on, but the PS3 is the best bang for buck Blu-ray player there is... in fact, it's not even CLOSE if you take the time to compare.
